  I was disappointed by Velvet & Amber yesterday, but today I couldn’t be happier with Damask Oud. It’s woody, warm, and dry, with a medicinal touch, yet the balance is nearly perfect—I love it. At first, it’s shy, almost imperceptible, but over time that shyness fades, revealing a bold, dry, and spicy oud with a faint medicinal note. It’s well-reined in and balanced by pepper and papyrus, which give it a dry character while masking its dirtier side. Then rose, saffron, and a hint of incense enter, adding a more refined and elegant facet to this phase. The rose isn’t overpowering; it blends exquisitely with the oud, creating a beautiful floral and spicy nuance. In the dry-down, it leaves smoky wood with many spicy nuances. It’s a distinguished, elegant woody fragrance I didn’t expect in this collection. Performance was good—about 7 hours on skin with a moderate trail that’s noticeable but not loud. Ideal for cold or temperate climates and exclusively for nighttime wear. By the way, according to Fragrantica, the collection was reformulated in 2015, so batches since then lack the potency and intensity of the original versions. My decant is from 2016, so keep that in mind when evaluating it. A magnificent perfume, a bit pricey given the current performance, but if money isn’t an issue, it’s a truly lovely scent.
