  • One of the best rose perfumes I’ve ever smelled, or at least the most realistic and natural take on a freshly blooming green rosebush. It’s a rose wrapped in leaves (very green is the fragrance) with a touch of currant and citrus. The green and currant notes can sometimes be excessive, but they are executed flawlessly. It’s unisex, though it leans feminine. It’s subtle, refined, and high quality. Few people wear it, yet it seems to be Diptyque’s best seller. Despite being transparent, it has excellent longevity, lasting over 8 hours with a moderate sillage. Essential only for lovers of the ‘realistic’. It’s like smelling a green garden with a great rosebush in spring. Note: this is for the EDT. The EDP is darker and less fresh, like that same garden in autumn with rain and wilting roses. I prefer it less.

  • Intense green, bordering on bitter, it reminds me more of the rose stem with those currants that give it character. As with almost all Diptyques, you need to let it settle to reveal the best base notes: amber and musk. It smells great and lasts forever. My advice: test it before buying.

  • Ode to Diptyque’s ‘Rose’. Review for the EDP. The opening is fruity-green, fresh, with a touch of sweetness; the black currants and citrus create this pleasant effect, though they’re just the prelude to the main note: the rose. It feels musky, creamy, powdery, and has a metallic facet, as if oxidized by water and salt. Everything fits; although it seems fragile, it conveys character. The dry-down is pleasant and accentuates that musky-salty effect. Less is more here; that simplicity transforms into elegance and subtlety, making the rose shine alone. Good longevity and moderate projection, ideal for daily use. Rating: 7.5.

I tried a sample they gave me at the store yesterday. I put it on at 8 PM, went out to dinner with friends, and they kept asking, ‘What perfume are you wearing?’. I woke up today still smelling it; the fixation and sillage are excellent (EDP). Today I went to buy it, but only the EDT was available, and it smells delicious too. The entire Diptyque line changes once it settles, leaving you with those unexpected base notes. Highly recommended. I tried Tam Dao today; it didn’t like it at first, but after half an hour, it was also delicious.

I used a sample in the store yesterday. I put it on at 8 PM, went out to dinner, and people asked what perfume I was wearing. I woke up today with the scent; excellent longevity and trail (EDP). Today I went to buy it; only the EDT was available, but it smells delicious too. The entire Diptyque line, once it settles, changes, and those unexpected base notes remain. Highly recommended 100%. Today I tried Tam Dao; I didn’t like it at first, but after half an hour, it was also delicious.

It came into my life by chance, and now I can’t live without this Diptyque wonder. Since I also have Rose Amazon by Hermès, I say they’re almost sisters. They transport you to a bucolic garden, a pond of lovers, as if you’d submerged yourself in a Monet Impressionist painting. Simply sensational. As they’ve said, you won’t be able to live without it anymore.

  • This fragrance evokes for me being in a garden pruning rose bushes full of buds wet with morning dew. It’s green, fresh, and of unopened roses, super natural. I don’t recommend it to those who don’t like roses, because this is pure rose with green and wet touches. A work of art for me.

  • I didn’t like it, I’m sorry. It smells like a nursery, insecticide, and plants. I’d feel super weird walking down the street smelling like this. It’s a geeky perfume for people who seek clashing scents. I see it as more feminine; if I smelled it on the street, I’d think something else. It smells like air freshener, someone cleaning windows, or applying insecticide, or a porch with plants. Anything but perfume. Luckily, I take YouTube reviews with a grain of salt. Miao.

  • I didn’t like it, I’m sorry. It smells like a nursery, insecticide, and plants; it would be super weird to walk down the street smelling like this. It’s quite a nerdy perfume, for people looking for very different and clashing scents, for better or worse. I see it as much more feminine than masculine, and if I smelled it on the street, I’d think something else. You know, an air freshener smell, someone cleaning windows, someone spraying insecticide, the smell of a porch with plants; anything but a perfume. Luckily, I take YouTube reviews with a grain of salt. Miao.

  • I didn’t like it much, maybe because I expected a different kind of rose. The opening caused some initial dislike, but after several uses, I managed to tolerate it. It evokes dampness, earth, freshly cut green stems, and buds just opening. Some say it smells like pruning roses after rain, and I agree. Does that sound good? The problem is that it’s excessively realistic. It fulfills its function: evoking that pruned garden with wet earth, but it becomes more of an olfactory experience than a perfume to enjoy. It’s niche, poetic, and original, but I would never buy it.

  • I didn’t like it much, maybe because I expected a different kind of rose. The first time I wore it, the opening caused me some dislike, but after a few uses, I managed to tolerate it a bit. This fragrance evokes humidity, earth, freshly cut green stems, and rose buds just starting to open. Some describe it as pruning rosebushes after the rain, and I largely agree. Sounds good, right? The problem is that it’s excessively realistic. It achieves its goal: evoking that garden of freshly pruned roses with wet earth, but in exchange, it becomes more of an olfactory experience than a perfume to enjoy. It’s a niche scent with a very poetic and original proposal, but personally, I would never buy it.

Totally agree with @vitodito; it’s a horror to me. Even the insecticide I have is more pleasant than this. I wouldn’t use it even if it were a gift. I love Diptyque, and out of all I’ve tried, I would never have said this one is from the house. Olfactory experience? What can I tell you, save yourself the trouble of smelling it…

Green rose with its stem. Green, almost aquatic, with a slight soapy touch. When you apply it, it conjures an image of a young rosebush blooming next to a lake. I agree with the previous review that it’s a photo-realistic scent. It’s the most evocative thing perfumes can do to transport us to places and moments. Don’t expect many compliments; it feels strange to the olfactory senses, more of an olfactory experience than a fragrance. A different way to treat rose. Curious, test it before buying.

I agree with the previous reviewer: it’s a photo-realistic scent. It’s the most mind-blowing thing perfumes can do, transporting us to places and moments. I’ve tried several Diptyques and like them for their natural realism. I tried Do Son yesterday and loved its realistic jasmine and orange blossom. Today I tried this one, and I also liked that realistic rose with a slight sweet, fruity touch; the black currants must be the key. Please ignore reviews saying it smells like insecticide; you probably won’t smell it that way. It might seem like a familiar scent, but it’s not unpleasant or harsh.

  • Robertomcat

To be honest, I’ve tried several Diptyque perfumes and I’m liking them quite a bit, especially the realistic and natural ones. Yesterday I tried Do Son and also thought its realism of orange blossom, jasmine, and neroli was excellent. Today I’m trying this one, l’Ombre Dans l’Eau, and I really like that realistic rose with a very light sweet and fruity touch; I’m sure it’s the currant notes. Please, don’t pay attention to reviews saying it smells like insecticide; probably you won’t smell that. It might seem like a familiar scent to something you’ve encountered before, but it’s not unpleasant or harsh.

Green roses, fresh and perfectly timed as they bloom. The floral queen in her most earthy, damp version, as if it just rained in a garden. It smells more to me of fertile soil after a shower than of flowers themselves. The brand describes a basket of roses and black currants by the river, but I see damp earth with currant bushes. I don’t break it down into phases; it’s subtly chameleon-like. Hard to define, but I love that dampness for the heat here, and it weighs nothing. I disagree with those who say it smells bad or like insecticide, though I understand the geranium connection. To me, it smells like a porch with plants, and I enjoy that. That’s the beauty of perfumery. It lasts 6 to 9 hours with a short but persistent trail. The bottle and back label are gorgeous and fit the concept perfectly. Don’t buy it blindly because you might love or hate it; it’s as rare as a green dog, but do try it. Note: this EDT is much brighter and fresher than the EDP, which I find oppressive and dark. Try both.
