Barber Note by Darkbeat Parfums

I’m not sure if this will be Darkbeat’s Magnum Opus, but what happens in this fragrance (which tells a story) is on an incredibly high level. The olfactory narrative takes us to a barbershop, as its name suggests. It opens fresh, green, and aldehydic, and I don’t know if it’s just suggestion, but from the very first moment, I perceive it as not only refreshing but also hydrating. It gives me a sensation of hydration. It’s beastly. As it evolves without losing coherence, a very fresh, invigorating lavender stands out, before settling into a final dry-down that is musky, mossy, and features a beautifully treated suede note. Despite all this, it remains what was described at the beginning: refreshing, but in a hydrating sense. I struggle even to describe it. It has good projection and better longevity; I would just avoid wearing it on very hot days since, for me, it can become overpowering. I’ve had this fragrance for just 24 hours and have been able to test it a couple of times. That’s enough to know this is first-class material. It provides a sensation of classic freshness in its opening, and practically throughout the life of the fragrance. Beyond its mentholated accords, I can’t break down the composition much. But there’s no doubt about the excellent quality of the components, and the smile it puts on your face. Highly recommended for lovers of barbershop fragrances or fougères.

I got to try this Darkbeat, Barber Note, and honestly, it caught me off guard. It’s a great start. I don’t analyze much; I just let my olfactory senses enjoy it. The notes are so well-balanced that the leather, which isn’t usually my thing, doesn’t bother me at all; quite the opposite. As it dries down, it smells animalic and spicy, a combination I absolutely love. At first, it reminds me a bit of YSL’s Kouros or Chanel’s Antaeus, that dirty but pleasant touch. Then, as it settles, it smells like Cartier’s Declaration. You can smell the moss all the time, along with a soft, shy floral note. In short, it’s very well made and made to be enjoyed.

This proposal has captivated me thanks to its aroma, which recalls the peculiar atmosphere of a barbershop, with a really powerful opening of aldehydes, citrus, and mint that envelop and overwhelm you, creating a unique and very natural atmosphere. The base of this fragrance is intense and persistent; green and floral notes combine with sandalwood and cedarwood, accented by patchouli, musk, and moss. The final effect, in my case, is total and complete sensory well-being. Curiously, I don’t know if due to the combination of ingredients, I perceive a slightly aniseed touch that doesn’t clash at all and exalts this perfume, which turns out to be not just a mere handiwork, but a coordination between mind and body, a union between hand and thought in which Jose Manuel acts as a perfumer of old times who measured himself with attention to detail, succeeding in bringing the memories of the past to life, creating a masculine fragrance that encloses in its drops the beauty and secret of the purest craftsmanship.
