Nebulous is one of Boadicea’s most expensive perfumes, hitting around $1,700 (£1,250) for 100ml. Is it worth the cash? After months of wearing it, here’s my take. The opening is that classic ‘oud-rose’ combo we’ve seen a thousand times. Nothing fresh. The base is amber and musky with rose, violet, and a marked oud—strong and tough for beginners. Saffron notes the composition without being heavy; it’s noticeable but not annoying. It smells very similar to Frederic Malle’s ‘The Night’ (thanks to the same type of oud), though in Nebulous the sweetness comes from amber (not sandalwood like in The Night), the rose lacks that velvet texture, and the oud is less aggressive. People will likely prefer Nebulous; it’s more wearable and softer. The scent is linear with no real development, moderate projection, and high longevity. The quality is excellent, everything is polished, but ‘The Night’ is more unique and, yes, more challenging. I think the price is ridiculous since they don’t specify what oud they use or how many grams; the bottle is black, but in cheaper perfumes like Valiant or Hanuman, the bottles have plaques with horses and a monkey, whereas here it’s a simple plaque like on Chariot or Complex. The box is standard, and I don’t feel much exclusivity in the presentation or the perfume’s originality. Even ‘Majestic’, which costs a quarter of the price, has a nice plaque. Nebulous should cost around $900 (and I’d pay it), but not $1,700; honestly, you’re throwing money in the trash. It’s like Roja’s Haute Luxe: expensive because Mr. Roger just wanted to position it that way. To sum up: Nebulous is a rich perfume with zero originality, great quality, and I’d rank it in the top 5 for oud-rose combos, but only at a price that’s so over the top it becomes a joke.
