The opening is a bit bitter due to the violet leaf, and you might judge it wrongly by that first impression (happens to me too)… but by the second or third wear, oh surprise, a warm, slightly powdery rose begins to emerge alongside the base iris. I don’t feel the iris trying to dominate; rather, it accompanies the rose in every burst of scent. Ideal for cool, temperate weather, excellent quality in its ingredients.
While searching for the perfect iris, I had to try this, and after testing a decant across various climates, I must say it’s not my cup of tea. What dominates on my skin is the violet, which isn’t a flower I enjoy smelling, especially the violet leaf’s herbal and green facets. Here, the iris only plays a supporting role, earthy and slightly woody, velveting as it dries. No sweetness at all. I’ve never smelled it like this before. I find it a classic perfume with a ‘back in the day’ vibe—not that it’s old, but it reminds me of other eras, and I doubt it would appeal to a very young person. Not a good blind buy; I recommend testing it first.
