The moment you spray Oesel, the DNA of Fleur du Male is unmistakable, but here it’s more refined and contained. The profile is more discreet, with an amber touch that smooths everything out. The floral notes are better balanced: the orange blossom is still there, but less intense, without that expansive punch of the classic Gaultier. I love this more restrained character; it makes it much more wearable and versatile for everyday use. Nowadays, finding a bottle of Fleur du Male is almost a lottery—not just because of the price, but due to the risk of getting a poorly preserved bottle. Oesel emerges as a worthy heir (perhaps even a dignified ‘niche clone’) that not only keeps the spirit alive but adds an extra layer of quality. Compared to other alternatives like Custo Barcelona, it’s undoubtedly superior in both quality and presence.
