  Kalemat, which means ‘wonder’ in Arabic, is the jewel of oriental perfumery. It’s authentic exclusive Arabic perfumery; from the first spray, you can tell the quality of the ingredients, the beautiful presentation, and the monstrous performance that lasts forever. I’m not very technical with reviews, but calling it elegant and serious is an understatement. I also own Kalemat Black, Assel Special Edition, Amiri, Resala, Desert Falcon Luxe Edition, and Majestic Wood Intense, and each is a work of art, though Arabian Oud is on another level.

  Kalemat smells very much like RWI, especially that licorice note that gives it a boozy vibe paired with anise that makes it bright. I also catch those incense hints from RWI, but here, cinnamon and amber take the lead. In RWI, incense and amber dominate—it’s heavier, darker, and more linear. Kalemat’s opening is bright and softened, feeling very light with a sweetness that evolves better. It’s very pleasant, but I already have something similar. If I didn’t own RWI, I’d buy this without hesitation; it’s kinder to the wallet. Once I run out of RWI, I’ll definitely grab Kalemat for that more interesting and bright evolution.
