John Pegg, the perfumer and creator behind the independent fragrance brand Kerosene, was born and raised in St. Clair, Michigan. Raised in a community where the automotive industry was dominant, Pegg was drawn to other interests, including painting and working on motorcycles. He loved earthy scents, grease, oil, and even the occasional smell of blood from a hurt knuckle.
Pegg’s fascination with aromas continued to grow, leading him to create his own line of fragrances under the name Kerosene. He debuted the line in 2011 with his fragrance R’oud Elements, and since then he has created more than twenty fragrances, each with its own unique character.
Pegg’s physical environment and experiences inspire his approach to perfume creation. Whether it’s the scent of a hot dessert or a walk through the woods, he draws inspiration from the world around him. While he may have personal preferences regarding notes, he is open to using a wide range of ingredients in his creations.
Despite being a long-time contributor in the independent perfumery market, Pegg has kept a low profile, generating intrigue with virtually no marketing or major social media campaigns. Nonetheless, his fragrances have gained a loyal following, and people continue discovering Kerosene and exploring the brand’s catalog.
Overall, John Pegg’s career as a perfumer has been defined by a passion for aromas and a commitment to creating unique, evocative fragrances. Through Kerosene, he has carved out a distinctive niche in the world of perfume and has established himself as a skilled and innovative perfumer.
