I expected it to be more like its siblings, but honestly, it differs quite a bit. Although it doesn’t declare grapefruit, Fragrantica says the pear wood tries to evoke that fruit, and yes, there’s a constant sweetness that doesn’t seem to come just from the amber. The official website adds that this wood gives an “African” leather touch, but to be honest, I perceive very little leather. The woods and spices provide a serious counterpoint in the background (sorry, it’s more linear), while that sweetness dominates midway between warm and fresh—a very pleasant quality that makes me like it, even if it’s not the pinnacle of quality. The performance seems good, probably influenced by having drawn out many milliliters to make a split; I can’t stop smelling myself, but as I said, this is usually normal when you leave the bottle less than half full in five minutes, haha.
Honestly, without resembling the eighth wonder, I liked it. It did remind me quite a bit of its sister, The One Parfum, a bit sharper and with a little more body in this Royal Night. I don’t smell tobacco in either of them, but they do share that “tobacco-like” sensation. In Royal Night, there’s a quite sweet note that accompanies from the start the spices, the wood, and the amber. I’ve never heard of pear wood, so I can’t say if it’s due to that or simply the mix with the amber or other ingredients… The trail is moderate, although I felt it quite well for about 3-4 hours, with the rest being closer to the skin. It can be found at a “decent” price in a 150ml bottle, by the way, right here and not just in the Middle East, haha, so I think it’s an option to consider, within its style. That said, it’s quite flat and easy to get bored by. Not bad.
It’s almost identical to the 2015 EDP, but with an extra touch of nutmeg and fruit that turns it into a super elegant cardamom bomb. The base keeps that soft, spicy richness with amber, cedar, and sandalwood, adding a dry, woody, oriental finish, almost like a very subtle oud. Perfect for making a subtle, elegant statement; the longevity is incredible and beats the EDP, lasting 9-11 hours with 4-5 hours of good projection that’s very potent in the first few hours. They’ve removed the tobacco to make way for cardamom and pear stem. Highly recommended and comes in a gorgeous bottle for any collection.
Very similar to the 2015 standard EDP, D&G’s One Royal Night is basically the same as the EDP with an extra kick of nutmeg and fruit. For me, it’s a very elegant cardamom bomb. The base reveals that original richness: warm amber, cedar, sandalwood, and deep, dry accords, with a hint of oud deep in the background. It’s for when you want to make a subtle, elegant statement. The longevity is incredible, beating the EDP with 9-11 hours of wear time and 4-5 hours of good to moderate projection; the first two or three hours are potent. Here the tobacco fades and the cardamom with the pear stem takes over. Very good and recommended, plus it has a very striking bottle for the collection.

I liked it. It plays in the same league as the EDP but with more body. What I detect most is the amber alongside the pear wood, which gives it that characteristic sweetness. The cardamom and nutmeg are very present. Its performance is much better than the others, lasting over 12 hours and projecting well for the first 2 or 3 hours. I agree with Drakecito that it’s quite linear and can be boring, which is why I don’t wear it as much. Overall, it’s a good perfume, hard to find, and worth it if you like the previous ones and find it at a good price.
Blind tested with a Uhm decant. The first time, on the back of my hand, I only noticed the cardamom. Once I put it on, more notes emerged: the cardamom, a spice I later realized was nutmeg, and a green touch. In the dry down, it becomes woodier with cedar and sandalwood, but the spices still dominate. The cardamom intensifies to the point of being a bit overwhelming. The sweet base, from the amber, smells slightly artificial but pleasant, like vanilla and labdanum mixed. The scent is quite linear, and the excess cardamom gets tiring; I would have preferred it more balanced. Without knowing what it was, the base reminded me of The One, but with more spices, projection, and longevity. I didn’t notice the tobacco scent others mention. It’s totally masculine and performs much better than the EDP on my skin. It’s a good perfume that just isn’t for me: it doesn’t smell bad, lasts well, and is worth it if you like the style, though personally, I’m indifferent.

If you look at the advertising, they try to sell it as the eighth wonder. Soaked in mystery and masculinity, they say it evokes the Middle East. I wonder if the perfumer was there. To me, it seems like a slightly spicier, herbaceous, and woody version of the original, without being anything out of this world. They have those synthetic notes that take away the magic. It’s typical marketing, old wine in new bottles. I expected more; I’ve tried proposals from Rasasi, Swiss Arabian, Lattafa, or Ard al Zaafaran that give it a couple of turns in scent and performance. It’s not a bad perfume, it has a notable pickled opening at first, then it stays at a barely acceptable level for a couple of hours. Definitely similar to the original, slightly stronger and deeper, but with projection not as exceptional as the presentation suggests. This Royal Night is absolute perfection, the sublime finale to the journey of so many The Ones that never appealed to me. Everything is great here: basil, sharp smoky cardamom, pear, sandalwood, and an undeclared sweet leather, like a new jacket. You get goosebumps wearing it. You think: ‘watch out ladies, this perfume causes instant orgasms’. I always knew it would fade quickly and then everyone would seek it like a holy grail. Don’t torture yourself; you can’t have everything. It’s one of those editions you buy without thinking. It would be the evolution for millionaires in the Middle East; the other The Ones were simpletons. It bugs me that they make these beauties over there but screw us in Latin America, as if we don’t have the right to use them. The price is worth it.
Finally, I have it. By the way, I still keep a vial of the original 2009 The One fragrance; that first formulation was exquisite both in scent and longevity, with a good trail at the start that later became more intimate, but an incredible aroma. After reading reviews of the updated version where everyone says it doesn’t last, I decided on the EDP launched years later, which also claims short longevity, until I found this Royal Night. Seeing comments saying it kept the DNA and longevity, I bought it blind. The opening is different due to the prominent basil, which I don’t entirely like, but after half an hour, it settles, and The One original emerges, one of the best aromas I’ve ever heard and the fragrance that has gotten me the most compliments…
Finally got it. I still have a vial of the 2009 original, exquisite in scent and longevity. After reading that the current version doesn’t last, I opted for the EDP, which they also say doesn’t last, until I found this Royal Night. The opening is different due to the prominent basil, which I don’t entirely like but it’s short-lived. After half an hour, it softens and the original The One appears, one of the best scents I’ve ever smelled that earned me the most compliments.
Update: This is a beast in projection and longevity… simply brutal.
Power and longevity. It’s the scent of the first version of The One but the HULK version. If you like the EDT, go for this Royal Night beast. Longevity, trail, and very reliable. It’s a showstopper. If you see it, don’t hesitate to get it. Easily over 8 hours, hitting hard wherever you go. Ideal for dates or being with that special person.
Not a bomb, at least in the cold. I see it as unisex. If you like spices, don’t be afraid to try it.
At 36 degrees with humidity, the opening is typical oriental and might seem strange; it’s the worst phase but it’s short-lived. Then comes the good stuff: it smells like sweet wood without being cloying, like the wood-amber version of Bentley for Men Intense. Lasts 8 hours on skin. Projection drops to about a meter after 1-2 hours. I have the EDP, and the difference is that this one is for younger people, with cinnamon, tobacco, and amber; Royal Night is for 30+, more mature and formal. Buy both; they have different but close paths.
Rich dry-down, very similar to The One EDT. Spiced and loud opening, then very wearable and tasty. Not a beast in projection (March 2022 batch), but very personal. Good longevity, 7 hours. Ideal for dates.
I found this White Night at the perfumerie and I’m super satisfied. For me, the original EDT is the best in the line, even if its longevity is poor. This Royal Night has that unmistakable DNA and lasts 7-8 hours, even more if you don’t hold back on the sprays. The opening is rough: strong basil and pickled notes for 15 minutes, then it settles perfectly. It lacks a tobacco base, but nothing is perfect. I used to wear the Pandora, which is sweeter at first but fades sooner. This Royal Night is better after the second hour. Excellent value. Hopefully D&G will relaunch it.
Smells like pure emotion, a mix of Natura, Billie Eilish, Santa 33, and a touch of Sara. It’s unisex, rich, elegant, and sensual. Sandalwood dominates, but it’s perfect for heat and the office. For a date, just spray a good amount.
