One of the best gourmands I’ve ever tried. It starts sweet and citrusy, with clear bergamot and mandarin, not acidic but sweet and slightly spicy. Then, the citrus, pepper, and jasmine give way to anise and cinnamon, giving that rich gourmand touch. From the 30-minute mark until the dry down, tonka bean, vanilla, and patchouli are the stars, with the pepper and jasmine barely perceptible. I don’t detect the declared vetiver. The high-quality vanilla and cinnamon stand out, strong but not suffocating, unlike other synthetic, caramelized designer gourmands. Longevity and performance are fantastic. It’s very distinctive and makes you notice. I haven’t found anything similar in the designer category. Along with New Harlem by Bond No. 9 and Ambre Narguile by Hermès, it’s my favorite gourmand. I highly recommend it; the house Bois 1920 will not disappoint.
It doesn’t smell like maki, nigiri, or sashimi, haha… It’s an oriental/spicy fragrance where the king is star anise. It’s one of the most delicious, warm, and comforting scents I’ve ever smelled. Alongside the anise, it features cinnamon, nutmeg, patchouli, tonka, and Madagascar vanilla, crowned by a citrus top of mandarin and bergamot. It brings back Christmas memories: apple pies, punch, hot cider… The house Bois was born in Florence in 1920 by Guido Galardi, lasted until 1925, and 80 years later his grandson, Enzo, revived it with over 20 fragrances created by him. Longevity is 8-9 hours, projects well for the first 2-3 hours, then stays close to the skin but remains noticeable. It’s marketed as unisex, but I feel it’s very masculine. The downside? The price, around $200 for 100ml.
I’d read it was similar to Opium, but I tried it for the different notes and quality. The truth: with the Opium EDP in hand, this doesn’t add anything; I actually prefer the YSL, as I feel this Bois is a bit forced, with an overpowering cinnamon that monopolizes everything. I expected more mandarin, but aside from the cinnamon and a bit of star anise, there’s not much else. The YSL has a more balsamic and soft vanilla, less sharp. The environment might have influenced it. I used a small amount and it performed well.
Citrus explosion! Lemon, bergamot, and mandarin dominate at first, but soon star anise takes the lead. At the half-hour mark, a creamy, milky sandalwood appears, embraced by the sweetness and woodiness of cinnamon, all wrapped in warm vanilla and nutmeg. In short: it’s citrusy, woody, warm, and gourmand, but not cloying. It’s elegant, sophisticated, and soothing, one of those scents that makes your mouth water.
This fragrance pays homage to its Italian roots and its love for colognes. It’s a spicy citrus opening, nothing sparkly, more green and dark, where mandarin, bergamot, and lemon blend with sandalwood and nutmeg, toning down the acidity to give a sweet and deep base in the first hour. Then tonka bean, rose, and vanilla come into play, dominating until the end. It’s a mix between Essenza by Acqua di Parma and Comandante by Xerjoff: jovial, fresh, and woody. It’s not groundbreaking, but very tasty. It has good trail and moderate longevity (8-9 hours on my skin), ideal for heat, casual wear, and men. A mood booster. For ages 25+. Rating: 8.5/10 scent, 5.5/10 trail, 5/10 projection, 4.5/10 longevity.
Sushi Imperiale is, without a doubt, the crown jewel of this house. It kicks off with a sharp citrus burst that, as it dries down, gives way to a blend of cinnamon, spices, and a touch of vanilla with sandalwood, creating an irresistible gourmand vibe. It’s a fresh and rich scent of exceptional quality and a very original profile. I recommend it to anyone looking for something distinctive that they’ll truly enjoy.
