  While I love discovering and sharing budget-friendly gems, this perfume was a letdown. I received it as a gift in an order, and my first reaction was to call it what we at home say about wines or perfumes we hate: ‘this is poison.’ Over time, I tolerated it a bit more, but ultimately, it doesn’t convince me. After the hyper-alcoholic opening comes a slap-in-the-face of anise, a note too dominant to consider it a clone of Dior’s Hypnotic Poison, even though it bears a strong resemblance. Given the similarity, they likely tried to use anise to mimic the caraway in HP, adding that spicy touch, but it ends up excessively intense and cloyingly sweet. In the dry-down, that note persists alongside a very potent powdery vanilla. It’s a somewhat unstructured and synthetic take on Dior’s fragrance. Its sillage is moderate, and the longevity exceeds expectations for its price—I wore it one night and could still smell it when I woke up. It’s going to another owner who, I hope, will enjoy it more.
