This one, along with Jazal, is one of my favorites. It has a lot of personality and is very well made. Although it reminds me of ‘Alien’ in some ways, it has the creator’s distinct stamp. I notice quite a bit of anise—balsamic and creamy—but it’s not annoying, just in the right measure, mixed with flowers. Although they’re unisex, I see them as more feminine. I already have them in my collection 😜.
Nuit d’Ylang by Darkbeat, created by José Manuel Giraldo. It’s an oriental floral fragrance. Although it’s unisex, many people see it as more feminine because of the star ylang-ylang and its indolic touch, which gives it the vibe of a rebellious 80s woman. I don’t detect anise or pomegranate at first, even though I know they’re there; if this were L’Oréal, I’d think it’s marketing, but here I believe they’re actually present. Sometimes, in fleeting moments, the anise appears like a mirage. I wonder if the indolic touch comes from the white pomegranate flower. I feel the ylang as carnal, sweet, and creamy. The vanilla, along with the incense and balsam, creates a ritualistic sensation, almost erotic and forbidden, like an Aztec priestess spell. It lasts a long time and is ideal for special nighttime events, especially with red clothes. I wouldn’t wear it in public, but it’s perfect for watching ‘Senso’ or listening to ‘Tosca’.
Another one from Darkbeat, thanks to José Manuel. At first, it smells dark, strong, earthy, and a bit like camphor, maybe due to the copaiba balsam. Ten minutes later, everything changes by magic: it becomes soft, sweet, floral, and even incense-like—delicious. It lasts 6 hours on the skin. I see it as unisex, perfect for all year round, day and night.
It smells very curious; it doesn’t remind me of anything I’ve smelled before. It’s one of those testers that leaves you wishing you’d smelled something incredible, even though the scent isn’t easy to wear daily. I can’t define it well: it’s not typical ylang, nor vanilla, nor pomegranate, nor much star anise. If I test it more, I’ll edit this, but it doesn’t smell like the common stuff.
At first, vanilla and lots of anise dominate. It’s a weird scent; I’ve never smelled anything like it. It reminds me of an unfinished dessert. It doesn’t quite work for me on my skin, but it has the virtue of being super original—it doesn’t smell like anything recognizable.
It’s a shame I detect anise at the start, because it’s the only note in Darkbeat that doesn’t sit well with me. But over time, the perfume starts to win you over and improves quite a bit.

At first, the pomegranate and anise notes give way to an enveloping ylang-ylang that feels carnal and sexy, like you’re in an exotic jungle. Then it all settles down: it becomes sweet, floral, and relaxing, with a clean, woody base that keeps that exotic vibe. It’s original—it doesn’t smell like anything I’ve tried before, and I love that.
