About Огни Москвы (Moscow Lights) Eau de Cologne

Moscow Lights: A 1957 Chypre Time Capsule

Огни Москвы (Moscow Lights) Eau de Cologne from Новая Заря (The New Dawn) is a chypre for Women and Men released in 1957. It was composed by perfumer Alexey Pogudkin.

The profile centers on white floral and musk with an animalic edge, plus aldehydic, mossy, powdery, green and fresh tones.

The opening pairs aldehydes with jasmine and lily. It feels clean and bright, the aldehydes lifting the white bouquet without sweetness.

The heart keeps white flowers and lily in focus, framed by galbanum, incense, labdanum and resins. Galbanum adds green bite while incense and resins bring weight.

The drydown rests on musk, oakmoss, civet and leather. Oakmoss gives the classic chypre stamp, civet and leather turn the base dry and skin-close.

As a whole, this Eau de Cologne reads as a mid-century chypre: aldehydic floral start, resinous incense middle, and a moss, musk and leather foundation.

For fans of classic unisex chypres, jasmine and lily over oakmoss, and collectors of historic Russian perfumery who like a measured leather and animalic finish.

A 1957 document with its frame still intact: aldehydes and white flowers over resins, musk, oakmoss, civet and leather. Sober, green and mossy.

White flowers Green, herbal and fougère Woods and mosses Resins and balsams Musk, amber and animalic
