Perfumery continues to surprise. I just discovered MORRIS COLOGNE FOR MEN, a strange and original scent that I’m not sure I’d wear daily, but it’s worth trying. It’s a bitter and somber fougère. My bottle has vertical fluting, typical of vintage batches. The initial notes are dense and wet: forest leaves on the verge of rotting, moldy moss, fallen and decomposing citrus, with soft aldehydes. It evokes landscapes by Friedrich and Constable, Gothic ruins, and fog. Lavender, soft tobacco, and patchouli give it a light soapy air, but it keeps that abrupt tone of ravines and acidic leaf litter. It’s a completely new set for me, impacting me as much as Kouros or Grey Flannel. I only recommend this to lovers of forgotten perfumes and those seeking new aromatic textures.
My story with Morris is recent: they sent it to me, I tried it, read Josesan’s review, and seeing it cheap and vintage, I bought it. It arrived this morning and delivers on the promise. It’s a typical 70s cologne: a fresh citrus opening that dries down into dirty, woody, and green tones. Smells like old-school barbershop, without reaching the ferns of the 80s. In Spain, we had myths like Napoleon or Otelo, body-rich but soft colognes for the man who just shaved and wants something discreet that won’t clash with smoke. Morris fits perfectly: it evolves from bitter citrus to swampy woods and is far from boring. Very masculine, classy, and lasts about five hours. Ideal for a silk robe, a brandy, and the newspaper. A key step before the fern boom.
Smells like Indiana Jones hunting for lost treasure. This vintage Morris is a straight shot from the 70s: tough, unforgiving, and intensely bold. Citrus notes over wood, cedar, and a hint of spice and lavender that won’t leave you indifferent. It’s dense, dark, and evokes a thousand stories. A wild yet sophisticated proposal for men of steel, think Clint Eastwood. Starts strong but improves with time, leaving a potent trail worthy of a cologne. A classic with its own personality.
