  It’s a perfume that transports you to other times and places. It embodies the original concept of Anaïs Biguine’s collection: three fragrances for tattooed skin inspired by ancestral rituals from New Zealand, Japan, and India. Moko Maori evokes native New Zealand plants used ritually by the Maori people for generations. On their website, the brand links it to the Maori vision of tattooing: triumph of nobility, peace of spirit, and rites of passage. I struggle to review it because I lack a reference point; the scent of those Oceanian flowers and plants feels too distant to me. Acknowledging this, I’ll just say it smells strange and somber. It doesn’t remind me of the vegetal notes suggested, but rather of ink, shoe polish, old (maybe damp) wood, fresh Magnolia soap, leather, menthol, earth, and a hint of smoke. It’s dry, earthy, and soapy. Many call it floral, but to me, it smells nothing like flowers. I suppose it’s hard for two people to perceive it the same way. Has anyone else tried it? On my skin, it lasts four hours, leaving a faint trail of smoky ink and musk—very strange. I don’t mind; maybe it’s like those trendy ephemeral mystical tattoos: you don’t want them to last a lifetime, but you wear them proudly for their uniqueness and concept, just like this aroma that won’t be accessible to everyone.
