  What an emotion to find simple, big colognes lost in time that transport you to another decade. It follows you softly but with good longevity; it features lavender and soft spiced notes that create a masculine and pleasant combination. Nothing feels out of place, everything is well-balanced, and it’s a shame it’s so little known. It gives off an air of elegance and freshness, so for vintage lovers, it’s almost a mandatory stop.

  The best way to talk about Men’s Club is to see it as a lost perfume from the dark ages, an archaeological trail of another era. While it recalls the classic Aramis, this Helena Rubinstein gem isn’t as aggressive; at first, it hits hard with a spiced patchouli and an elevated floral note, a bit dirty, very masculine, elegant, and bohemian. Then, it settles down and becomes something gentle and comfortable right against the skin, where the patchouli really shines. It’s an elegant, soapy aroma, like being wrapped in clean sheets with the window open to a forest. Another great discovery thanks to Jerry Drake.

  Mens Club reminds me of 1966 and still throws me off in 2021. Whether that’s a virtue or a flaw is up to you. The truth is, it starts with that classic sixties opening: aldehydes, herbs, and a strong animal musk reminiscent of the old days (totally different from the friendly one in Narciso Rodriguez), with that distinct Aramis vibe. If you can handle that first hour, the initial scent fades to reveal a white floral and woody base, very soapy and classic for a man, which lasts a long time. Mens Club is that tough guy on the outside who warms up to his family when he gets home. Au revoir!
