  Looking for an alternative to Nasomatto’s Pardon, I picked up Ligno, inspired by it. I have several from Pastor, a young Chilean nose. Let me clarify that inspiration isn’t a clone; sometimes they’re close, and other times, like this one, it’s much longer-lasting and very similar to Pardon. I love it, but it’s pricey compared to its longevity. Here, Pastor takes the lead with great fixation; maybe it lacks some fine nuances, but the difference is minimal. Pardon is more three-dimensional, while Ligno just needs two sprays on the neck to last all day. It’s wearable year-round except in hot summers. The patchouli and clove are well-executed. It’s more linear, but given the price, the value is incredible.

  When I applied it to my wrist, within a minute I felt that animal note from the original Kouros, something dirty like civet. It’s so potent it drowns out everything else, even though it’s not listed in the notes. I searched through my Arabesque collection and couldn’t find it until I spotted my Jacques Bogart Oud Edition; that’s the animal note. Combined with the musk, it smells like cocoa vanilla, nothing else. It’s not bad, but that blend dominates everything. I’ll keep testing the brand; I already own Champ Elysees and am looking for the perfect temperature. Greetings from Chile.

  Very versatile and unisex, though it leans slightly more feminine than masculine. It has a delicious vanilla and a super wearable oud that’s not animalic at all. I let it macerate because it didn’t develop past 5 hours, but for the price, it’s luxurious.
