  Did you see ‘The Navigator’? Manuel Cross doesn’t follow IFRA rules, which makes this indie brand shine above the rest. The opening is a light, clean grey amber base, followed by violet leaves and tobacco flower that define the composition, with a vetiver that accompanies without being earthy. Performance is modest, but the result is a light, fresh, masculine, and timeless scent. To put it simply, it smells like a real gentleman: a well-shaven, well-dressed man with good manners who knows about wine, music, and travel. In short, it conveys a seasoned man. Picture that era when men shaved at the barbershop and took off their hats to show courtesy; notice the box image has the same description, and you’ll see he’s wearing a straw Canotier hat, hence the name. The bottle and box are as artisanal as it gets: strips of cardboard cut like ‘juliana de tortilla’ form a bed where the bottle lies, the atomizer unscrews with just a finger twist without much pressure, and the colorful paper strip adorning the bottle… all these details transport me back to an old Mexican show called ‘El Espacio de Cositas’. Imagine the bottle was decorated by her herself, and I mean it in a good way because this is pure craftsmanship. The perfume is perfect, although there’s a problem: it was discontinued about a year ago and it’s very hard to find. Great perfume.
