Descripción

KL Homme by Karl Lagerfeld is a spicy oriental fragrance for men. Launched in 1986, the nose behind this composition is dsm-firmenich. The top notes unfold with orange, Brazilian rosewood, bergamot, and Amalfi lemon; the heart reveals carnation, rose, cinnamon, geranium, jasmine, patchouli, and sandalwood; while the base notes close the pyramid with amber, musk, benzoin, vanilla, and labdanum.

  • LAGERFIL KL Song: Sussudio by Phil Collins. An intense, long-lasting oriental scent. It’s a more intense Pierre Cardin, almost crossing the line from men’s to women’s perfume (similar to Youth Dew and Cinnabar). KL by Lagerfeld is a jewel in perfumery that honors its oriental title, incorporating classic elements of Arab perfumery like rose and spices. It’s elegant: don’t wear it with a t-shirt and jeans; it demands strict etiquette or at least a good quality sweater. Recommended only for winter. Another of my acquisitions that I’ll never stop admiring.

KL Homme by Lagerfeld is a work of art: exotic, elegant, and oriental, perfect for going out at night to stand out, not for daily wear. The citrus, floral, and wood notes play individually and complement each other in an exquisite olfactory blend that never goes out of style. Along with the Classic and KL Homme, they form a ‘cult’ status like the holy chalice of perfumes. If you loved the Classic for its potency and exquisiteness, you’ll love this one too. Fortunately, it’s still available in some stores. If anyone wants it, I can arrange it privately.

  • The Genius of Lagerfeld is pure floral praise. It opens with vibrant bergamot, soft lavender, and orange, but right from the start, you detect that earthy, ambered, slightly animalic touch. It’s extremely unisex: a throbbing intense cinnamon lives alongside a bouquet of carnation, rose, and geranium. With the heat of the skin, the resins (olibanum) turn to smoke, adorned by a beautiful musk and a touch of civet that doesn’t bother. It reminds me of a tribute to Dana’s Tabu (fewer spices, no clove), with nods to Estee Lauder’s ambered orientals and the resins/lavender/orange/amber combo of Pierre Cardin Pour Homme, plus an affinity with CK Obsession Men from 1986. What stands out is that balance between dusty flowers, wood, smoky resins, and amber. Moderate projection and more than acceptable longevity. Review based on the late 80s/early 90s 60ml version. Bravo!
