The notes listed on the Lophiel website don’t match what you actually get: passion fruit, grapefruit, and ginger at the top, followed by coconut, tonka, and marine accords, with a base of amber, patchouli, and vanilla. It opens bright and spicy with the ginger and a hint of marine, but the coconut and passion fruit are barely noticeable. It evolves into a wild scent with a marine backdrop. The first hour is decent, but afterward it retreats into a very contained personal bubble. It doesn’t quite reach the skin, though it’s close. Lasts about four hours, and while it’s marketed for spring-summer, at €20 there’s no complaining. The real issue is that they claim it’s niche, yet their site charges €177 for this mediocre, uninspired fragrance. I don’t think it’s a counterfeit since no one really knows Lophiel. That leaves the question: is this the work of an enthusiast who missed the mark, or someone trying to get rich off people’s goodwill?
