It’s the first letdown from this house. At first, it smells like resinous and spicy leather—very uncomfortable and challenging, but ultimately uninteresting. I don’t detect cinnamon, orange, or anything else, nor do I smell the key note of incense. I attribute the dirtiness to the castoreum in the base. Plus, the longevity is very short, which doesn’t usually happen with them.

Katana caught me off guard in 2023! I loved Cuir Vicuna. I thought it smelled like industrial oil and reminded me of Gucci, but once it hit my skin, what a surprise! It starts citrusy with bergamot and orange, then balances into a dirty leather with balsamic styrax. It becomes natural, carnal, and seductive. That dark leather stops being challenging and turns into something enjoyable. The citrus fades and the leather takes over on the skin. A gem of the line that deserves a try.

I was pleasantly surprised by this creation from Katana. I expected a powerful, animalic leather, but it’s surprisingly balanced and restrained. At first, the citrus dominates from start to finish, mixed with a potent scent that’s not so much dirty leather as it is incense, black tea, dark vetiver, and patchouli. The castoreum adds power without being overly animalic. In the end, it evokes a polished, elegant black leather jacket, not a dusty brown one. It’s uniform and evolves little, leaving the dark side as a skin scent. Projection and longevity are average, but it stays on the skin. The only downside is the price: 280€ for 30ml.
