Black Gold by Mancera

Hey, if you already own this fragrance and also the Aqua Wood from the same house, I swear you should try layering them—the result is out of this world. Let me know how it goes for you. Golden rule: always test before buying.

Beautiful fragrance, bought blind. Right out of the bottle, you smell the declared notes: nutmeg, cinnamon, citrus, and a very dominant lavender. I don’t recognize the oud, but the opening is rich. The magic happens in the dry-down: it transforms into an elegant rose/violet/medicinal oud. The violet has that faint gasoline vibe from Dior Fahrenheit, but much more subdued. It feels semi-powdery, chivalrous, with clean woods and a subtle creamy leather. There’s a fresh air to it thanks to the marine notes. Performance (dry skin): longevity +8h, moderate projection for 2 hours with a similar sillage. Then it becomes personal, with occasional bursts when you move until the 5th hour, light but noticeable. June 2022 batch: I was surprised that the atomizer isn’t pressurized like the other Mancera bottles; it’s short but potent. Edit: Let it macerate, and it gained a lot of power.

This fragrance has nuances. At first, in the first 5-10 minutes, it smells like a women’s hair product—I thought it was terrible. But once it settles, the pleasant notes come out: rose, leather, musk, patchouli, and woods. It transforms into something phenomenal. The nutmeg lingers for a while, giving it a peculiar and interesting touch. Projection: moderate. Longevity: 7-8 hours, projecting well for the first 2 hours (in cold environments). Although it has marine notes, I don’t see it as a daytime scent, though it could be used; however, the performance wouldn’t be fully utilized.

Smells really good, honestly. It’s not my style at all, but it feels pleasant. It opens strong with citrus, lots of flowers, spices… In fact, the first time I smelled it, it seemed more feminine. Now I wear it with pleasure, though not enough to buy a bottle. What I like most is the dry-down: the flowers relax, it darkens a bit, with leather and woods. It’s versatile for almost the whole year except in intense heat, and it performs very well. Lasts beyond 6-7 hours with excellent sillage.

Lavender, clean, fresh, floral, light, woody, leather. Elegant. It follows the same path as Rasasi Shuhrah.

One of Mancera’s gems. It’s a fresh, spicy, unisex, charming, and versatile scent. Lots of lavender accompanied by spices, citrus, woods, and supposedly oud, which isn’t felt at all; instead, there’s more musk and amber, all with a floral facet that dances. It has a certain elegance but can be worn outside formal settings; it’s totally unisex. The sillage is huge; it disarms those around you, hitting the nose with that fresh, clean burst.

I’ve had this for years, bought it blind, and at first it didn’t click. But after giving it a second chance and wearing it for several days in a row, I was surprised: I like it more and more each time. It’s super versatile. The opening lasts about 5 minutes and smells a bit like Prada Amber Pour Homme, but then the real show starts in the dry-down. Great perfume.

#February6 A real steal for your partner. We fell in love with a decant I gave my husband, so on his 38th birthday, July 11, 2020 (right in the middle of the pandemic), I gifted him the bottle. Thanks to some luck, we got the previous edition, and the quality is top-notch. The trail is wide and lasts over 16 hours. Since he puts it on, you can smell woods like cedar and oud, with spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg over a base of lavender, violet, and vetiver. It stays 100% masculine and has no equal. It’s delicious, sexy, and seductive. Note: as we read on Fragrantica, don’t buy it blind, because several people haven’t liked it as much as we have.

Wow, this is a fragrance ‘Frankenstein’: what I notice most are the flowers and the leather base. I’ve loved it for that peculiarity. It lasts a long time and is perfect for cold or autumn weather. Without a doubt, a woman can wear it. 9/10.

I loved it, lasts all day, very elegant, and at the end it smells a bit like Dior Homme Parfum.

It starts with the vibe of a semi-modern Versace Dreamer and dries down like Reflection Man. Spectacular.
