The Amber Roses combo is a luxury that hits you hard at first with deep, dark roses, almost like a sweet fermentation scent. Even if I don’t say it outright, it smells like it has a high alcohol concentration (rum, vodka, or whiskey). I love it because it offers very little in its composition; it’s almost boring due to being linear, but for me, it accentuates a point where the rose ferments into alcohol and amber, creating an aura of darkness and bitter sweetness soaked in a good bourbon barrel. Remember that this rose combo can be found in Serge Lutens fragrances like Baptême du Feu or Fille de Berlin: scents loaded with drama and symbolism, with the rose as the cornerstone but stripped of freshness and injected with challenging notes. The result is a scent of roses from the gardens of mythology. If you’re looking for versatility, cheerfulness, or traditional roses, keep walking your path. But if you’re bored with the conventional and crave character, this fragrance could be your happily ever after.
