  1. And it all just ended up being an illusion… 😶🌫️ This indie house is new (2022), and a perfume from their catalog by Jono Bornstein caught my eye last year for its notes. I’m a huge blackberry lover (and a fan of many other notes present here). Cloud Illusions is basically an herbal-menthol scent that dominates the composition, while the blackberry sits in the background, staying true to its nature—meaning it smells quite acidic. I detect a touch of violet, and the perfume has a slight effervescent texture thanks to the musk. That’s it. The herbal combo is just too overpowering and drowns out all the other notes. It’s not as original as its notes might suggest. 💡 The bubblegum/chewing gum accord requires serious mental gymnastics to pick up because it’s really hard to detect. Linear, modest performance, versatile, and unisex. It stains white clothes (like a good indie perfume should) so keep that in mind. I like the quality; the raw materials are top-notch since it uses absolutes and iris root tincture. I like the concept, but in my opinion, it falls short. It doesn’t smell bad, but I feel like it’s stuck in a beta phase, lacking development. With those notes, there was so much room to create something fantastic. It’s like driving a four-cylinder Mustang—it’s fast, but… it lacks the punch and raw power of a GT (eight cylinders), that rumbling exhaust note that could easily make a mime smile. Forget about the Shelby; that’s a wet dream. To be blunt, I would have loved to smell an ‘herbal-menthol’ scent, but dial down the intensity of that combo a bit, amp up the blackberry, let a semi-creamy tone from the sandalwood and iris play with the violet, adding those same effervescent brushstrokes. Could there be a hint of bubblegum vibe coming through, or is that too much to ask? A disappointment, but for disappointments this year, I’m sticking with ‘Blackout’ from the Italian house…
