Palquis is a tribute to the Queen of Sheba, that legendary Eastern sovereign known as Palquis, Balkis, or ‘Creature of the Sky’. Adored by all, its scent is a stunning oriental blend of smoky leather, resins, and frankincense with a spicy twist. It reminds me of Gucci Intense Oud, but it’s kinder and more beautiful; it has resinous sweetness, no sugary notes, and the price is in a different league. Its heart is a precious woody, resinous frankincense that guides the entire fragrance. At first, with subtle sweet and green notes, it comes out a bit fresh but without losing that dark tone it’s known for. Then those fresh notes fade, the woodiness drops, and the leather takes over with a resinous sweetness that stops you in your tracks: it’s a rich, smoky leather with dirty nuances, very lovely. The dry down is a sweet amber with a slight woody touch. In short, it’s a dark leather and frankincense perfume, niche-looking but bargain-priced. It lasts forever, over 9 hours on skin with moderate sillage, though friends and family have caught it all day. It’s best for cold or mild climates with an evening vibe; I’ve worn it in heat without issues, but its ideal moment is fresh days. Not a daily wear, it’s elegant and formal, perfect for dates or special events. I didn’t have high expectations of this house, but I swallowed my prejudices when I bought it at such a ridiculous price and I’m thrilled. It’s a fantastic leather, frankincense, and resin perfume that doesn’t shy away from the greats, hard to find but if you get it, don’t hesitate: it’s a masterpiece, though only for dark fragrance devotees.
