Starting with the base: Simone Andreoli wants to bring us back to childhood memories in Sardinia, those natural Mediterranean aromas, focusing on the Chia black fig. I picked it up hoping for a fruitier, riper, sweeter fig with that crazy creamy coconut vibe. Those facets are there, but they don’t dominate as I expected. At first, the fruit is juicy, dense, and slightly sweet, but soon a firm, green, vegetal note kicks in, softened by that creaminess which surely comes from the coconut. Fico Nero isn’t a sugary summer fig, but a complete portrait of a landscape: the fruit, the leaf, the dappled sunlight, the cool shade, the breeze brushing the skin, and the earth where the fig tree takes root; everything coexists to tell the same story. It’s not individual notes, it’s a special place, serene and enveloping. In my opinion, Fico Nero manages to capture the perfumer’s intention with surprising realism, in an authentic and intimate way, inviting you to stop for a while and enjoy the scenery.
The fig in all its glory, from the fresh, sweet, juicy fruit to the milky herbal leaf with that characteristic note. It’s very similar to Diptyque’s Philosykos, but this one lacks the milky fig character, which Fico Nero compensates for with Coconut. Low projection, like most of its kind I’ve tried, but excellent longevity (more than 6 hours).
I really liked that it’s one of the few perfumes where you can actually smell the fig pulp; most include the leaves, but the sweet fruit is rarely featured. Here, both are perceived alongside coconut milk. It opens sweet but then turns green. I loved the scent, but I’m not sure I’d buy the full bottle to smell like this, as it felt more leaning towards a masculine vibe as it dried down.
Tested from a sample. Imagine walking into a store that only sells black figs; that’s the aroma you’ll find in this fragrance. The best black fig fragrance I’ve tried so far. It’s quite realistic with decent performance.
