Paulo de Moraes
Paulo de Moraes, from Brazil, is a respected perfumer who joined the LUZI team of perfumers in Switzerland in 2016. His academic background is rooted in biochemistry, a discipline he studied in Brazil. However, his entry into the captivating world of fragrances began when he took on the role of perfumer assistant at Quest International. Over the years, Paulo’s experience has stood out, especially for iconic brands designed specifically for the Brazilian market. Paulo’s Brazilian heritage deeply influences his creations. He often incorporates regional ingredients, such as cashew and sour lemon, into his fragrances. In addition, he has expressed his preference for white-flower notes like jasmine. However, the scent of the manacá tree, native to the tropical forests of Brazil, is especially dear to him, as it serves as a moving reminder of spring days in São Paulo. For Paulo, both nature and emotions are intrinsic to his inspiration. He sees an inherent perfection in nature and is continuously motivated by the myriad of feelings—his own and those he perceives in others. This perception is reflected in his approach to perfume-making, where he often translates emotions into the fragrances he creates. Outside of his professional life, Paulo values his freedom, often spending time with friends or riding a bicycle amid nature. Once, he described his essence as something that resonates with “transparent woods,” alluding to its light characteristics intertwined with the multifaceted charm of amber notes.
