Vetiveria Animalis by Angelos Créations Olfactives is an olfactive fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2022, this creation was crafted by nose Angelos Balamis. The top notes feature vetiver, Calabrian bergamot, aldehydes, cinnamon, plum, and geranium; the heart notes include Haitian vetiver, civet, lily root, narcissus, carnation, ambrette musk, Damask rose, lily of the valley, and Egyptian jasmine; the base notes consist of Java vetiver oil, oakmoss, Thai oud, musk deer musk, castoreum, patchouli, balsam of Peru, ambergris, Siam benzoin, sandalwood, ambroxan, and vanilla absolute.

As the name suggests, this is a very animalic vetiver, especially at the top, with musk and a powdery touch. It’s a timeless classic; as it dries down, potent floral and aldehydic notes blend with the opening, softening it. In the dry down, it becomes more amber without being sweet or smelling like oud. Overall, it’s an old-school animalic and floral vetiver, more masculine, but I was surprised by how unisex it is (without the opening, it doesn’t smell like the potent feminine perfumes of the 1920s). Good longevity and projection.
