Nishane’s experimental collection. Shinanai: A linear fragrance with a strong personality. It doesn’t evolve much across the three stages, but that doesn’t make it any less interesting—it’s playful and empowering. It might lean more toward the feminine side of the collection, yet it works perfectly for men too, since you won’t find many with such a rare aromatic profile, which sparked my curiosity. It’s a floral scent with a very animalic edge, carrying that “vintage” old-school style; even though rose isn’t listed in the top notes, it hits you like a truck. It’s like a bouquet of decomposing carnivorous white flowers, and immediately a rush of animalic notes emerges. Civeta lingers to add dirt and lightness while also giving it plenty of body and presence. It smells like an old, dirty fur coat. Resins, sandalwood, and oakmoss don’t take center stage but add sweetness. The flowers sit in the heart and keep sending out warm, buzzing waves… I enjoy this fragrance too much; I think it shows. It evokes walking through an ancient enchanted forest where you shouldn’t have gone. A challenging but very wearable aroma with enough character. For noses that are a bit “experienced,” I’d say.
