Night by Perry Ellis

So much hate for this perfume! Today I went to a perfumery hoping to find something similar to 212 but cheaper, and they offered me this. Honestly, I had low expectations, but when they sprayed PE Night on my hand, wow! I don’t understand the reason for the negative comments; to be clear, this is, without fear of saying it, 212 before all those possible reformulations. I remember perfectly as a child that fresh, spicy, and green essence of 212 from the early 2000s that I smelled thanks to a relative… Now as an adult, I’ve bought recent batches, and it just wasn’t the same no matter how hard I tried. Luckily for me, this Perry Ellis DOES keep the soul of what 212 used to be in its early days. As I write this, three hours have passed and the scent is still on my hand. But honestly, even recent batches of 212 CH didn’t last as long. So for 350 Mexican pesos (~$19 USD) that the Night cost me, it’s a great buy.

With this fragrance, I learned what maceration is. I bought it and couldn’t smell it even after bathing in it. After a year in the box, it smells delicious: citrus with wood. The irony is it would be perfect for daytime if it didn’t evaporate completely in the heat. At night, something else is better; I use it to sleep, a tasty scent before drifting off.

DO NOT BUY before reading this. $20 perfume; if you pay more, you’ll feel scammed. Decent bottle that fits easily in a drawer where, hopefully, it won’t come out. Citrus top notes and low longevity. Definitely masculine, like a deodorant but more expensive. No one will ever say this is their signature scent. Never. It’s so bad that I’m offering it for $10 and still can’t sell it.

Good afternoon. First off, I want to share my experience: I think we’ll agree that if you apply it only to clothes, the opening is super citrusy, like 212. But if you put it on your skin, the evolution is totally different and bears no resemblance; you’ll feel the rich grapefruit and orange top notes, then it takes a different path. Many people don’t realize it smells different on fabric versus skin; sometimes on clothes it just stays as the top note and doesn’t evolve, so it’s better to apply it where you like it most to enjoy the full experience all day. Also, some people can’t smell it after an hour because their olfactory palate gets blocked by the scent; if you’re unsure, don’t hesitate to ask if the aroma reaches you to avoid negative reviews. I wore it on both skin and clothes, and while I sometimes notice similarities to 212, when I smell my arm, it’s not the same, but the scent is very rich.

I’ve been using this fragrance for a while, and it’s definitely good. Even though its name suggests it’s for night, it’s easy to wear during the day. It’s citrusy and doesn’t resemble 212; I don’t think it smells like any other fragrance I’ve tried, but it’s still very good. It lasts about 6-8 hours and is noticeable at a distance, earning me compliments. For its price-to-quality ratio, I’d give it an 8.5.

I bought it at the Perry Ellis store for $18 for 100 ml. Very good citrus aroma, grapefruit is the star with cedar and musk, nice sensation. I don’t find any resemblance to 212 Men or Polo Sport as the section says. Despite being called ‘Night’, I consider it for daytime use, except for a warm spring-summer night that’s not formal, since it gets lost against strong fragrances in pubs or clubs. A detail: longevity and trail are very low, around 3-4 hours, trail weak for 2 hours, skin scent only until the fourth hour. Like with the Aqua, I finished the bottle quickly by over-applying. Never again.

If you like citrus, this is ideal. Personally, I didn’t like it because I thought it would be more complex. Regardless of preferences, it fades very quickly. Preferably for warm days, more sporty style than for going out, maybe for the office, but it doesn’t have the mystical effect I love so much.
