Musk + Instinct by Avon

The earthy petrichor effect is executed very well; it feels like a green forest surrounded by apple trees after a storm. Yes, it’s synthetic, but given the price, we have to be realistic—the effect is more than achieved. It smells great, delivers on its promise, and is incredibly cheap. Don’t expect it to be identical to an expensive niche fragrance, but it does its job.

It’s a fresh-based perfume like the rest of the Avon line, but this is the greenest of them all. I feel like I’m deep in the woods. The price is excellent and very accessible. Sillage and longevity are weak, but I don’t complain given the cost; it’s good for smelling nice. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. I just received the Musk+ Instict expecting to smell something else, perhaps in the line of YSL’s Y (I can’t judge since I don’t know it). On the first sniff, I felt more than pleasure: emotion. Because I finally connected a viable perfume that recovers one of my childhood favorites: Balenciaga’s ‘Ho Hang’ from 1972. Marketed as unisex years before CK One. A unique fragrance I hadn’t smelled until today, when Avon offered it in an Instinct bottle. There’s nothing left to do but thank them for this rescue. An excellent perfume at a laughable price. The price-to-quality ratio is pornographically in favor of the price. If you’re a fragrance addict, grew up in the 70s, or want to try something unique and delicious, don’t miss it. Can olfactory data fail? Without a doubt, because the data is unalterable but decoders can distort it. The result for me was a direct recall to that pioneering fragrance. I’d love to hear from someone who compared this perfume to an original ‘Ho Hang’ or shares the same memory data.

At first, it resembles YSL’s Y, then it takes a totally different path: dark green and earthy. It reminds me a bit of Ekos, heading in that direction. I love it; I was honestly surprised. And well, the price is a joke—it’s meant to be used up.
