  Pomegranate in Italian means pomegranate, but I swear to you, even though it has pomegranate notes, it doesn’t smell like fruit. It smells like an old-fashioned perfume and nothing really stands out above the other notes. They told me it was one of their orientals, and I can assure you it smells very oriental, though subtle. On my skin, it lasts about five hours. They have a whole line of cosmetics with that same scent.

  Disappointed with its sillage; freshly applied, it’s a showstopper, smelling of high-quality clean soap… but unfortunately, the emotion doesn’t last long. I’ll try boosting it with the oil from the same line to see if I can make it last and leave a trail worthy of the price. If not, I’m leaving Santa Maria Novella.

  Disappointed with its trail: fresh out of the bottle, it’s a showstopper, smelling like clean, good soap… but unfortunately, the excitement doesn’t last long. I’m going to try boosting it with the oil from the same line to see if I can make it last and leave a trail worthy of the price. If not, I’m dropping Santa Maria Novella.

  A chypre that brushes against aromatic territory. Very herbal, with dry florals; perhaps the tobacco, labdanum, and moss give it that touch. It recalls a bit of incense but has a powdery nuance. Reminds me of Oriza Legrand’s Foin, but less soapy and less sweetly powdery. Very, very reminiscent of the old Miss Dior. It evokes the end of summer when everything is dry. If you like chypres, go for it. Edit to add its character: clean, refined, elegant yet simple, spiritual, almost intellectual. Don’t look for sweet makeup powders here.
