L'Elegant by MDCI Parfums is a woody-spicy fragrance for men. Launched in 2021, this composition was created by perfumer Irene Farmachidi. Its top notes of incense, cardamom, saffron, and black pepper offer an enveloping and spicy opening. The heart reveals a warm and sweet harmony featuring sandalwood, iris root, nutmeg, davana, honey, cinnamon, and cumin. Finally, the base settles into a deep and exotic foundation of oud wood, myrrh, cashmere wood, labdanum, tonka bean, and musk.

L’Élegant by MDCI (2021) pays homage to the 1795 portrait of lawyer Pierre Sériziat by Jacques-Louis David. He lived a life straight out of a movie: lost his father in a duel, was raised by his uncles, ran with Marat and Robespierre’s circle, voted for the king’s guillotine, became Napoleon’s official painter, and died old after a carriage accident. The painting shows him as a country gentleman with an English pose, wearing a frock coat, leather breeches, a riding crop, and a large hat, in a diptych with his wife Émilie. The cloudy background speaks not only of his rural life but of a vanity full of appearances and symbols. According to MDCI, Irene Farmachidi’s version is a masterpiece: it captures that almost dandy elegance, goes beyond the facade to touch the soul, and offers a masterful, balanced blend of musks, woods, spices, and amber.
