The fragrance is excellent—it’s the classic John Varvatos and achieves a rare, deeply masculine scent. Overall, it’s well-constructed, but its longevity is a bit lacking.

  • I’m obsessed with it; I love it so much, but it seems like girls just don’t notice it at all.

  • This is a fragrance to enjoy on your own. It smells great but has very little projection, staying close to the skin and lasting about four or five hours on me. That’s why it’s perfect for the office without bothering anyone. Best for winter or fall.

  • ManiacoFragantico25

Honesty, it smells very sweet, almost too much, with a dark edge that can be a bit dizzying. It’s not fresh at all, so if you’re looking for something airy, this isn’t for you.

Honestly, it smells very sweet, almost too much, with a dark edge that can be a bit dizzying. It’s not fresh at all, so if you’re looking for something airy, this isn’t for you.

  • I like it; it’s a sweet, subtle, and soft scent, ideal for wearing in offices and enclosed spaces.

  • Hamlet0051

Smells quite good. Similar to Dolce Gabbana’s ‘The One’. But there’s a drawback…, its longevity. It disappears after five hours, even though I usually apply a good amount.

  • ShiseidoTactics

I gave it several chances and finally fell for it (and generally for the whole Varvatos family). I admit it has similarities to my hated ‘The One’ by D&G, but I think this Varvatos version shows exactly that more masculine, energizing, or vigorous side that Dolce lacks. It’s definitely on my future shopping list.

  • jerry drake

Nice scent, but weak projection and longevity, at least in my case. If it were a bit more intense, it would be perfect.

  • pedjalazaro

I like it. It’s a fruity leather with just the right touch of dryness and darkness so it’s not too cloying. The dry-down is slightly woody. It suffers a bit from poor performance. A good fragrance for night that, since it’s not intrusive, doesn’t clash in the office. Best for autumn and winter, more for night than day. Moderate longevity, soft sillage.

  • Plum is the standout note in a totally masculine fragrance that I liked but didn’t fully convince me due to its short wear time on the skin.

  • pedjalazaro

I like it. It’s a fruity leather with just the right touch of dryness and darkness to keep it from being cloying. The drydown is slightly woody. It lacks a bit of performance. It’s a good fragrance for evening wear that, being non-intrusive, doesn’t clash in the office. Ideal for fall and winter, more for night than day. Moderate longevity and a soft trail.

  • Pleasant fruity perfume with subtle leather undertones that aren’t too noticeable. Softly sweet, nothing cloying. A friendly scent you can buy blind without worry. Its only flaw is the weak projection, trail, and longevity.

  • A pleasant fruity perfume with subtle leather undertones, not very noticeable. Softly sweet, nothing cloying. A friendly scent you can buy blind without issues. Its main flaw is the weak power, sillage, and longevity.

  • I bought it three days ago at a TJ Max in NYC. I spotted a deal out of the corner of my eye at their small perfume stand. It was the travel set with a 125ml bottle, a portable spritzer around 17ml, and a sample of Artisan, all in a very noticeable signature case. I absolutely loved the peculiar opening and dry-down: fruity at first with a spark, very unique and pleasant notes. Then, (the transition is short and the duration is brief), a nice dry-down appears—masculine, nocturnal, but skin-scent only. On me, about four sprays in cool weather lasted 2-3 hours with weak projection, but the scent is so rich it’s worth it. Three women smelled it at dinner and were delighted, which speaks volumes about this olfactory gem. Personally, without being an expert, I consider it a good, pleasant, and personal scent, distinct from others.

  • Pleasant surprise, because sometimes famous fragrances don’t hit the spot while other times the opposite happens. I tested two John Varvatos scents yesterday at 2 PM on my inner arm—this one and Vintage—and at 7 PM I sprayed Sauvage EDT from a sample. By night, Vintage was barely noticeable, Sauvage was there but faded, while John Varvatos was the one that lingered the most. It’s been 24 hours and I can still smell it on my skin, though I have to press my nose right against it. Every perfume is a whole different world on every skin, which is why you always have to test before buying.

  • A pleasant surprise. Sometimes you’re disappointed by famous fragrances that don’t suit you, and other times the opposite happens. I tested two John Varvatos scents yesterday at 2 PM on my inner arm, this one and Vintage. At 7 PM, I sprayed a sample of Sauvage EDT. By night, Vintage was barely noticeable, Sauvage had faded, but the John Varvatos one stood out the most. It’s been 24 hours, and I can still smell it on my skin if I press my nose close. Every perfume meets every skin differently, which is why you always have to test it.

  • Memoquique

Excellent perfume, just like all the JVs. I’d say that if they had better sillage and longevity… if they did, they’d be the perfect perfumes.

  • Gentil vagabond

Fruity leather with a successful balance, what a great scent. Same old story, doesn’t last long for me…snifff.

  • After seeing this fragrance for a long time, always finding it in the US during trips at Ross or Marshalls, it never caught my attention until now. I bought a decant at a good price and I can say it’s actually good. I detect a tamarind note over a sweet, wearable leather base. It has sweet hints from the amber and caramel, but nothing overwhelming. The downside is it doesn’t project much, but it clings to the skin for several hours. My batch is from 2014, and maybe that’s why it lasts longer than others mention. It was a pleasant surprise and it doesn’t smell like anything else. Ideal for casual outings or the office in mild to warm weather.

  • For me, it would be a classic if it lasted longer and had more sillage and projection, because it smells amazing. The downside is it doesn’t last long and the trail is almost just for you or if someone gets really close. A pity, but when I wear it, I love it. I just spray more to make it last a bit longer.

  • Really good aroma that gets ruined by terrible performance. A shame because it’s not ‘just another one’.

  • bmendozamx

A very soft and sweet leather, super wearable. It projects a leather scent, but on the skin it leaves a sweet trail.

  • peperinafragancia

A classic, pleasant masculine aroma, somewhere between CK Eternity and PDM Sedley. Herbal, musky, and woody. You can tell it’s high quality.

  • John Varvatos has created a clean, distinctive leather with a soft, sweet touch that makes it incredibly versatile. The best part is its balance: subtle and sophisticated without losing character. It wears comfortably in many settings and climates; its soft sweetness makes it perfect for day and night. Unlike other reviews, in my experience it lasts most of the day, has excellent longevity, and a moderate trail that projects a few feet without being invasive but still noticeable.

  • John Varvatos has created a clean, distinctive leather with a soft, sweet touch that makes it super versatile. The best part is its balance: subtle and sophisticated without losing character. It works in any setting, day or night. Contrary to what I’ve read, in my case it lasts all day, with a moderate trail that projects without being invasive but is definitely noticeable.

  • I’ve been wearing this fragrance for years; it’s one of the best and most authentic for winter. It all comes down to personal taste and style.

  • Damn, dates and leather. What more could you want? You can’t turn into a dromedary, so you grab John Varvatos and you’re set. Just kidding, it’s a total treat, one of those you buy blind, with a great price and it’s often on sale. His buddy Vintage would also be a no-brainer (and I own it).

It’s such a shame that in Chile they only carry the men’s version of this fragrance; it feels unfair how sexist some brands like Lancôme can be. After releasing incredible scents for men like Miracle and Hypnose pour Homme, they discontinued them and now only sell them in women-exclusive boutiques, while Ermenegildo Zegna never launched a feminine edition and John Varvatos follows the same path.
