Italian perfumery has hidden gems that are hard to find unless you’re there. GMV Uomo is one of them, thanks to Jerry Drake. Like any art, a perfume is a reflection of its time and society. GMV was born in the late 90s but lives spiritually in the 80s. It’s an austere fern, loaded with oakmoss, soapy nuances, and a light fruity note that sets it apart from typical men’s fragrances. It’s well-constructed, oscillating between formal, fresh, and romantic; addictive and unusual. It’s a mature interpretation of the fern. Modern perfumes often try to shine easily and superficially, but GMV Uomo is for people who understand life, who don’t go for nonsense, and who look at things honestly. It conveys the vibe of a serious, worldly person—fun but capable of sinking into the mud when needed. Good performance and a high-quality feel. Awesome.
Everything changes, everything flows, but some scents stick around. Putting this fragrance back on hits me hard: dark and deep, yet with an inner warmth that wraps you up. I feel pampered all over again. It’s intense and decisive, yet like a tight hug from someone who truly cares, or a caress from someone who genuinely appreciates you. What a beautiful feeling. I’m talking about Uomo by GianMarco Venturi, that green bottle from 1987. It’s an Italian classic from the 80s—elegant, charismatic, herbaceous, and very green, with a bitter touch that unfolds its magic naturally, without arrogance. Discreet, but it climbs if you over-spray. On the skin, it’s a whole different story: it blends with you and creates an almost magical halo. It’s like walking through a fresh, aromatic forest where the sun can’t reach, and suddenly you step into a sunlit clearing filled with pure citrus and floral magic. Venturi managed to create something accessible to everyone, yet few know how to wear it well. A nearly unknown treasure, a silent witness to an era and a style only he could deliver.
