Descripción
Cheval d'Arabie by Sultan Pasha Attars is a spicy oriental fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2020, this composition is signed by perfumer Sultan Pasha. Its top notes unfold an exuberant blend of Taif rose, Indian oud, white rose, algalia (civet), elemi resin, frankincense, and saffron. The heart reveals an evolution toward Indian oud, Bulgarian rose, algalia, hay, leather, Indian patchouli, geranium, and narcissus. Finally, the base notes anchor the composition with algalia, chrysanthemum, ambergris, hay, leather, elemi resin, chital musk tincture, Kyara frankincense, castoreum, white amber, Siam benzoin, and mimosa.

Sultan Pasha markets this as the most animalic attar in their entire lineup, reserved for the brave and true connoisseurs. They aimed to clone the scent of an Arab horse breed, and did they succeed? Absolutely. Key notes include black ambergris, various musks, civet, castoreum, leather, and frankincense. Of all their releases, this is the most extreme. The scent is dense, dark, sharp, penetrating, and invasive—it’s like standing in a stable surrounded by horses. It also carries Indian oud. It has little dry-down development, and floral or resinous nuances get lost because it’s so aggressive. Projection is modest and close to the skin, typical for an attar, but longevity is a beast. It lasts practically until you shower with soap and water (a sponge wouldn’t hurt, believe me). On clothes, it sticks with skin contact and causes rapid olfactory fatigue; be careful with even one extra drop. The shirt collar needs pre-washing before laundering because a lingering odor residue remains that won’t go away. Here we are, those who enjoy animal scents, so calling it “stinky” is out of place, although people will likely ask you to open a window or move away, using those very adjectives. It requires knowing how to wear it; talking about versatility is redundant. It’s an animal attar! I met it a couple of years ago and expected more difficulty, but it didn’t disappoint. If you like the type of Oudh Infini (now discontinued) for its sharp/animal character, you’ll love Cheval D’Arabie for the same reasons—it’s dense and aggressive. As a reference, Hyrax by Zoologist, Fiona by TSVGA, and Afrika Olifant by Nishane are animal benchmarks: animal-animal, animal-floral, and animal-woody respectively. Cheval D’Arabie takes it even further. Wonderful 🌟
