  Maison Berry aims to capture the soul of Normandy in its fragrances, and Cathédrale is their boldest creation. Using a technique called Olfactive ID, they synthesized the scent of the Gothic Rouen Cathedral, a sacred place for mystics. With proper permissions, they collected samples from the crypt and temple stone, highlighting two notes: frankincense and limonene, the molecule responsible for lemon’s aroma. It sounds pretentious, but the result is top-notch. To me, it smells much more luminous than a cathedral; temples usually smell dense and bring me down, but this one is vibrant, likely due to the bergamot. It’s a green, lively frankincense that reminds me of the sparkling incense in Passage d’enfer by L’Artisan Parfumeur, which I adore. Other notes include moss, wood, and benzoin. It has a mystical, silent vibe, but instead of evoking a temple, it conjures a green forest. If I had to rate it, it’s both green and luminous at the same time. Highly recommended at 100% for frankincense lovers.
