Cafe del Mar is a curious evolution within the coffee-marine genre, a concept I’ve seen before in Renier’s Havana 500. Here, the result exceeds expectations: very pleasant sweetness paired with rough textures from the sand, though the seaweed note sometimes sounds a bit plastic and drags down the perceived quality. Fortunately, it evolves beautifully into a creamy coffee with a velvety marine base and fruity touches. Overall, it’s a good experience, and its originality earns it points within the brand. I see it as unisex and better suited for heat than cold. My advice: try it and draw your own conclusions. Rating: 7.5/10 (tested from Discovery Set).

Cafe del Mar is an odd perfume in its evolution within a scent type I’ve encountered before, for example in Renier’s Havana 500, where they combine coffee with a marine accord. Here, the result is much better than expected, with very pleasant sweetness and textures that are somewhat rough due to the declared ‘sand,’ but at times the seaweed note becomes a bit plastic, which hinders the experience slightly and makes the quality feel lower. However, the perfume evolves quite well, ending with a slightly fruity accord, a somewhat creamy coffee, and a velvety marine base. The wearing experience is generally good, and I think its originality gives it a point in favor within the brand. I see it as unisex and a bit more suitable for heat than cold. I recommend trying it and forming your own conclusions. Rating: 7.5/10 (tested from the brand’s Discovery Set).

Fresh and smelling like a hot summer day, like an afternoon on a hotel terrace by the sea sipping a tequila margarita. It starts very fresh with lavender and juicy green apple—nothing acidic, just a touch of sweetness. Within minutes, the heart arrives: vanilla, ambergris, a salty hint, and a nearly imperceptible coffee base that’s hard to detect. In the end, only that sweet, ambered blend of lavender and ambergris remains. In short, it’s a solid, playful, and non-controversial perfume that’s very pleasant. It has moderate sillage and lasts about 8 hours on my skin. Ideal for wearing whenever you want in spring and summer. Scent: 9/10, Sillage: 8.5/10, Projection: 8/10, Longevity: 8/10.

The opening of Monegal Cafe del Mar is slightly citrusy with fruity traces and that rough, bitter sensation of a weak coffee, which I believe is more residual and serves as a companion to the fruity cocktail at the start. It’s not sugary despite the slight natural sweetness of the green apple, which is barely perceptible but very pleasant. I don’t perceive the marine algae note as such; perhaps it’s a success not to elevate it, as it’s often a challenging note. A few minutes later, the fruity development with blue tints feels more like versatile fragrances than a pure summer scent; there’s no bronzer or heavy coconut here. In my view, it’s the most versatile and masculine of Monegal’s summer trio. As it dries down, the sweetness fades and it becomes a bit powdery, with a masculine lavender and a very contained ambergris that adds a nice dirty touch, almost like incense reinforcing the masculinity. It finishes with warm ambered hints and a muted vanilla after 8 or 9 hours, with moderate projection. To sum it up: it’s a blue, versatile aroma perfect for any occasion and weather, very well made and highly accepted (my wife loves it). If you’re looking for something marine, summery, and challenging, this isn’t for you.
