I let the 2ml sample macerate for a month, and unlike Map of the Heart’s Purple and Red Heart, this one didn’t work for me. It’s not bad, but the balance between the promised notes wasn’t what I expected. The opening is an intense citrus blast that lasts for two hours. The trail is brutal on my skin, capable of masking any other fragrance or even filling the room. While there’s a hint of eucalyptus in the background, after half an hour it starts smelling balsamic, but what dominates is a very strong, synthetic citrus that on my skin smells like citronela from Mercadona. I don’t detect the woods, cinnamon, or cardamomo. Maybe it’s the mix with eucalyptus, but it just smells like pure citronela. The opening seems to have a touch of licorice and some very muted incense. In the end, I don’t like it. It’s a bitter, super-citrus, and synthetic perfume. Instead of feeling woody and spiced with cinnamon and cardamomo as I hoped, I get a citrus aroma that I only see for summer and daytime. It’s not pleasant for a date or meetings. It smells more like a summer hike than winter spices. It reminds me of a mix of rosemary, thyme, and lavender, even though those notes aren’t listed. I don’t know if I got a defective sample, but I just don’t find it pleasant. It feels unbalanced with so much citrus that it clogs your nose and you can’t smell anything else. Compared to the Purple and Red, which I would buy blind, this has left me totally disappointed.
