Wren Atelier 2437 Review: A Tropical Gourmand That Breaks the Mold

Wren Atelier's 2437 is a fascinating contradiction — a fragrance that smells both familiar and utterly original. Named simply by its batch number, this 2022 release from the Filipino niche house captures the spirit of Southeast Asian street food and tropical gardens in a single spray.

Created by perfumer Renato Lopena Jr., 2437 doesn't try to be another generic tropical scent. Instead, it weaves together calamansi, pandan, and bitter orange at the top, before diving into a heart of tropical fruits, tuberose, jasmine, and the surprising note of tupig — a charred Filipino rice cake.

The opening of 2437 is immediately striking. Calamansi, that tiny Filipino lime, provides a tart, juicy brightness that's fresher than any standard citrus note. Pandan adds a green, almost nutty sweetness that's instantly recognizable to anyone who's cooked with the leaf, while bitter orange keeps things from becoming too sweet.

As the fragrance settles, the heart reveals its complexity. The tropical fruits are ripe but not cloying, and they're balanced by the indolic richness of tuberose and jasmine. The tupig note is the masterstroke — it brings a smoky, slightly charred rice quality that grounds the florals and prevents the composition from floating away into generic fruity-floral territory.

The base is where 2437 truly becomes a gourmand. Chocolate, vanilla, coffee, and musk form a cozy, almost edible dry-down that lingers for hours. The coffee note is roasted rather than bitter, and it pairs beautifully with the creamy vanilla and the soft, powdery musk that emerges in the final stages.

What's remarkable about 2437 is how well it balances its many elements. The citrus and florals keep things fresh and luminous, while the gourmand base adds depth and warmth. It's a fragrance that evolves significantly over time, rewarding patience with a dry-down that's entirely different from its opening.

Performance-wise, 2437 projects moderately for the first few hours before settling into a comfortable skin scent. Longevity is excellent — expect eight to ten hours on skin, with even longer on clothing.

This is a fragrance for those who enjoy niche perfumery with a sense of place and story. If you love tropical scents but find most of them too simple or sunscreen-like, 2437 offers a sophisticated alternative. It works beautifully in warm weather, but the gourmand base makes it surprisingly versatile for cooler months too. Both men and women will find something to love here — it's genuinely unisex, leaning slightly feminine in the floral heart but balanced by the smoky, coffee-laced base.

Wren Atelier 2437 is a triumph of creative perfumery. It takes familiar tropical and gourmand elements and rearranges them into something genuinely new, with the tupig note providing a unique signature that sets it apart from anything else on the market. If you're looking for a fragrance that tells a story and evolves beautifully on the skin, this is one to seek out.
