Egypt is a great hit for cool days: it starts with a potent, earthy alcohol blast, then unleashes a clean, soapy lavender reminiscent of Versace’s Blue Jeans. It blends into cardamom and lots of nutmeg, evoking Dolce & Gabbana’s The One. The base is a velvety spiced leather that begs to be sniffed, with a sweet milky touch that makes it addictive. Lasts about 6 hours with average projection. Elegant yet casual, it’s earned me some good compliments. Easily an 8/10.

Today is my favorite from the brand: a bold balance between barbershop notes and elegant resins. It’s not heavy and very versatile, except in extreme heat. You can smell all the ingredients, but those resins remind me of an Acqua di Parma-style myrrh. As it evolves, amber takes over and mutes the rest slightly. I feel it’s very original, pleasant, and elegant—more masculine with excellent longevity. It’s on my wishlist. Rating: 8/10, tested on a Discovery Set.

Exotic name but a Western, classic 1920s scent. Very masculine, with a drier and more enveloping finish than the opening. Although it’s marketed as a niche fragrance, I don’t think it truly is, given the high price for what it offers in terms of scent. Sillage, projection, and longevity are decent. Always, try it and let it dry on your skin before buying.

Exotic-sounding name but a Western scent, classic 20th-century inspired, mature and very masculine, with a drier-down that’s sweeter and more enveloping than the opening. Although the brand is niche, I don’t think it truly is, given its high price for what the fragrance offers. Sillage, projection, and longevity are more than adequate. Always, always, always test and let it dry on your skin before buying.

Sublime. I love it. I walked into a perfumery looking for something barber-shop style and they showed me Sartorial, Antico Caruso, this Egypt, and other options. I liked them all for the vibe, but I tried Sartorial (which I already knew) and Egypt on my skin. Egypt has a curious opening, but what hooked me was its dry-down and that spicy touch within the classic aroma I was seeking. Between 50 and 60 minutes, notes emerge that give me a fascinating freshness. To my untrained nose, that freshness with menthol-like hints could be the cardamom in the heart notes. Then it gets a bit creamy and woody. Great performance, ideal for any occasion, with a really interesting evolution.

What a great perfume. Masculine and classic fougère opening that dries down to a truly charming suede-ambered aroma. It’s not a complex composition, but it is original and enjoyable. It has good performance and is versatile, but I wouldn’t wear it in summer or very casual situations.

Sometimes I wonder if they test the fragrances or just sniff them straight from the bottle before rating. It’s a great fragrance in the barbershop realm; moderate performance but makes up for it with the scent and longevity. It’s not mind-blowing, but if you’re looking for a barbershop-style masculine scent, it’s good. Beyond that direction, it feels elegant and high-quality. Personally, I’m thrilled; the name is wrong—it has nothing to do with Egypt; they should have given it an English name. The aroma doesn’t remind me of Egypt, but everything else is fine.

Eight&Bob sells a brand story with a lot of invented drama and little credibility. They claim Egypt was created by Albert Fouquet in 1935 for a friend named Ahmed. Anyway, it’s a spicy woody scent. The batch isn’t fresh except for the lavender, and you do notice the cardamom and nutmeg that foreshadow the main woody notes. The sandalwood is sweet and creamy; I even detect cedar. All mixed with a patchouli that has a sour, faded nuance, likely due to poor quality (point against). The whole thing feels not very special and could resemble other insignificant fragrances (another point against). The packaging is fine, but the price is very high; they charge niche prices for a designer-quality fragrance (major point against). Rating: 3.
