Sophia Grojsman is a visionary perfumer whose passion for flowers and plants began at an early age. As a girl in Belarus, she was captivated by the tastes and scents of the natural world, and spent her playtime with flowers. Sophia’s family later moved to Poland, where she earned a degree in inorganic analytical chemistry.

In 1965, Sophia emigrated to the United States and began her career at International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. as a laboratory assistant. Her mentors included Josephine Catapano and Ernest Shiftan, two legendary American perfumers. Sophia’s creative energy and passion flourished as she continued creating some of the world’s most beloved fragrances, including Paris by Yves Saint Laurent, Eternity for Women by Calvin Klein, and Tresor by Lancome.

Sophia’s fragrances are known for their sensual silkiness, reminiscent of flower petals, and for a lush softness that does not compromise the strong and confident character of her creations. Her unique vision marked the beginning of a new style of fragrances that broke with traditional classical forms, allowing the base notes to be visible from the opening.

In addition to her impressive career in perfumery, Sophia is a warm and charismatic person who radiates confidence and naturalness. Her love for children is evident in the large collage board in her office covered with photos of the children of all her friends and partners. Sophia sees herself as a mother to all the young perfumers at International Flavors & Fragrances, and her dedication to her work is matched only by her warmth and generosity.
