Philip Kraft, born in Germany in 1969, studied Chemistry at Kiel University and obtained his diploma and doctorate with Werner Tochtermann on macrociclic odorants in collaboration with H&R. In 1996, he joined Givaudan’s fragrance research, and was promoted to the ranks of chief chemist (2001), group leader (2008) and researcher (2015), with a special focus on rational design and the synthesis of new odorants, molecular modeling and structure–odor relationships. To keep Fragrance Chemistry visible to the scientific community, since 2004 he co-organizes the GDCh ‘flavours & fragrances’ conferences, and the next one will take place in Göttingen in 2025. Since 2008, he has given lectures on Fragrance Chemistry at the Universities of Bern and Zurich, as well as at ETH Zürich, and since 2021 at the University of Göttingen/Wöhler Research Institute for Sustainable Chemistry. Impressed by his leadership role in sustainability, he joined Symrise, Holzminden, in 2021 as chief chemist. He is the author of 101 publications, 43 patents, and the inventor of 8 commercial perfumery materials.
