Emma Dicks is Lush’s in-house perfumer, a globally renowned brand. Known for her broad experience in the industry and her unique career path in perfumery, Dicks has honed her skills over more than two decades within the company. Her perfumes have enhanced many of the products that consumers have come to love, and she has played a key role in establishing the high-quality standard for which Lush fragrances are known today.

Born and raised in the United Kingdom, Dicks began her career at Lush when she was young, originally joining the company as a seasonal Christmas employee. Her role involved basic operations, including labeling containers and filling shampoo bottles. Her dedication and ability to learn quickly caught the attention of her superiors, giving her an opportunity in the perfume compounding department, where she created a quality-control system for essential oils and absolutes.

This step into the perfume compounding department marked a turning point in her career. Emma became immersed in the intricate details of fragrance composition and the complexities of high-quality raw materials. She soon found herself delving deeper into the industry, discovering cases in which suppliers had adulterated materials. As a result, she began working on direct sourcing from manufacturers, leading to stronger relationships with suppliers and a better understanding of the raw materials she used when creating fragrances.

As she progressed through various roles within the company, including natural raw materials buyer and senior management in manufacturing, Emma also achieved motherhood. It was then, with travel no longer possible as before, that she got the chance to explore her potential as a perfumer. Encouraged by the founder of Lush, she created her first perfume, which led to her current position as the company’s in-house perfumer.

Despite her considerable achievements, Dicks has never received formal training in perfumery. Her unique career in the world of fragrances has been characterized by learning on the job and experimentation. This hands-on approach to perfume creation has allowed her to develop an intuitive understanding of materials and a style that sets her apart in the industry.

Among her notable creations is the Florence Collection (also known as the Renaissance Collection), which has received praise and recognition, cementing her as a key figure in the perfume industry. Emma Dicks continues to explore new frontiers in perfumery, creating fragrances that uphold Lush’s commitment to quality, uniqueness, and creativity. Despite the occasional attacks of imposter syndrome, her innovative spirit and tireless dedication to her craft make her an inspiration within the world of perfumery.
