Elise Benat, perfumer at Firmenich, was born and raised in the south of France, surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, the maquis, myrtle, and salt. She recalls these scents with admiration. As a teenager, Elise traveled to several exotic corners of the world, which later influenced her future work as she created delicate and surprising fragrances.

Elise discovered her passion for perfume while studying chemistry during her first course of olfactory training. She describes this as a true revelation, and from that moment on, she was determined to pursue a career in perfumery. Her dream came true when she joined Firmenich’s team.

For Elise, creating fragrances is like photography, since she sees scents as images. She finds inspiration in art and literature and enjoys translating words into aromas. As she says: “When I create, I see images. Like a photographer, I imagine scents as images”.

Besides her passion for perfume, Elise enjoys reading and finds comfort in literature. Her experiences and passions have undoubtedly contributed to her success as a perfumer, and her creations continue to surprise and delight the fragrance industry.
