Perfumer
Celine Barel
Celine Barel is a perfumer who currently works for International Flavors and Fragrances (IFF), a leading global creator of flavors and fragrances. She is known for her unique ability to create fragrances that evoke strong emotions and connect with consumers on a deeper level.
She was born and raised in Grasse, France, a city famous for its fragrance industry, although she did not have family ties to the sector. As a girl, she was fascinated by perfumes and collected fragrance bottles. Her interest in the olfactory world grew while she did internships at prestigious brands such as Chanel, Dior and Vuitton.
Finally, her love of creating perfumes led her to seek olfactory training and she joined IFF in Milan, Italy. She studied for two years after her work hours, learning about raw materials and market products with someone who had been trained at the Roure school. Barel then passed the internal competition to enter the IFF perfumery school program, where she was trained at creative centers in the Netherlands, New York, Paris and Grasse.
Barel has been a perfumer for 17 years and she is passionate about decadent, opulent and sensual fragrances, as well as large white flowers. Her favorite fragrance, Versace Blonde, has unfortunately been discontinued. Despite not having traditional training in perfumery, Barel’s profile was recognized by IFF, and she is grateful for the opportunity to pursue the career of her dreams.
Throughout her career, Celine has worked with numerous well-known brands, including Abercrombie & Fitch, Avon, Clean, Lancôme and Loewe, to name a few. She has also created perfumes for celebrities such as David Beckham, Jessica Simpson and Shawn Mendes.
Other brands Celine has collaborated with include Aesop, Blumarine, Canali, Coach, Diana Vreeland, Harajuku Lovers, Jesus Del Pozo, Maison d'ETTO, Norell, Scents of Wood and Zoologist Perfumes. Some of her most popular fragrances include Fancy Love by Jessica Simpson, which has become a fan favorite. In addition, Celine has created other notable scents, such as Coach Poppy, Vanilla & Anise by Jo Malone London, Tacit by Aesop and Bellissima by Blumarine. Recently, she also worked on Squid by Zoologist Perfumes, which has received positive reviews from fragrance enthusiasts.
