Perfumes de Bérénice Watteau

At seven years old, Bérénice Watteau already knew she would become a perfumer. Although she was born in northern France, it was in the vibrant energy of Paris, where she was raised, that her calling truly took shape—nurtured by a family deeply attuned to art and creativity. From an early age, she recognized scent as her chosen medium: a form of invisible art that is nevertheless profoundly expressive.

After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Pierre and Marie Curie University, she pursued her passion at ISIPCA, graduating in 2014, and later expanded her knowledge with studies in perfume marketing at ESSEC. In 2018, she joined Puig in Barcelona as a Junior Perfumer. The following year, she became part of dsm-firmenich, where she honed her craft alongside inspiring mentors, including Principal Perfumers Amandine Clerc Marie and Clément Gavarry, as well as the Master Perfumer Martin Koh.

A passion for traveling has always shaped Bérénice’s creative sensibility. During her adolescence, transformative trips through Ethiopia, India, and Myanmar broadened her olfactory horizons, enriching each destination with its own sensory vocabulary. At the age of 30, she moved to New York, where the city’s vibrant, fast-paced rhythm sparked another awakening, offering her a renewed sense of freedom and creative energy. Along the wind-battered coasts of Long Island, she discovered surfing—a discipline that demands resilience, intuition, and focus. Just like perfumery, it requires patience and trust in the process, and each wave conquered evokes the excitement of bringing a fragrance to life.

Among the ingredients she values most is Ambrox®, whose mineral sensuality—both warm and fresh, subtle yet addictive—deeply resonates with her aesthetic. This attraction to contrasts permeates her creations: each perfume is defined by the delicate tension between elements that appear to be opposites, harmonized in compositions that are both unexpected and irresistibly captivating.
