Neroli Portofino Forte is Tom Ford’s answer to the criticism of the original versions for their mediocre sillage and soapy scent. It’s stronger, deeper, more intense, and soap-free, though the price seems unaffordable even for fans. If you dreamed of a version twice as long-lasting, this is your reality. Still, experts don’t rank it among the brand’s best, but rather as its mass-market commercial side for those who just want citrus. By the way, Atelier Cologne offers better citrus alternatives at a lower price.
Very little sillage and poor longevity. The soapy note gives it a baby-like, unsettling vibe: the most expensive Nenuco cologne out there. Claiming to be ‘Forte’, it lasts a mere breath; after five hours, I can’t smell it from a distance, only faintly up close.
Even though they labeled it ‘Forte’, it’s still the same childish cologne from before. The trail and longevity last about a single breath.
Tom Ford: Neroli Portofino doesn’t work; let’s make an improved version. Sure, ‘Neroli Portofino Forte’: the same thing but with a touch of wood and powdery citrus that no one will notice. And let’s sell it for much more! That’s how I imagine the brainstorming for this launch.
Neroli Portofino Forte is the evolution of the original: if the first is sparkling and luminous, the Forte is the cologne a father or grandfather would wear, deeper and cozier, shifting from yellow to dark orange. It has the same base but is much more durable and elegant; the leather doesn’t smell like leather, but like texture. The drydown has a soapy touch that makes it smell clean. There’s a slight sweetness, perhaps an undisclosed amber that adds longevity. Good performance (5/6 hours) and a beautiful, though familiar, scent.
I was gifted this, and it reminded me of my friend’s baby cologne and classic ‘grandpa’ scents. I didn’t fall in love with it, but for hot days, it provides a nice fresh burst. Over time, I got used to it, and the ‘gentleman’s cologne’ side doesn’t bother me as much anymore.
Tom Ford’s Neroli Portofino is a tribute to coastal elegance that masterfully captures the Mediterranean light. It’s a gem from the Private Blend collection that distills neroli freshness, evoking that salty breeze of Portofino. It opens with sparkling citrus notes of lemon and bergamot, like a sunrise over the water. As it settles, jasmine and amber add depth, reminiscent of a high-end lemon tart. The longevity is exceptional, and the projection is powerful yet elegant, filling the room without overwhelming. It’s for those seeking understated luxury and effortless sophistication, turning every day into a work of art.
