  • It’s a brutal fragrance for spring and summer. It has the Kouros seal but is less intense, with more focus on citrus and pineapple. I feel it has less sage, so it’s ideal for those who like Kouros but find it too strong. It feels like the summer brother of Kouros: similar longevity, but sweeter, with woody, aromatic, and amber notes. In my opinion, it’s one of the best fresh and summer fragrances out there.

I never thought I’d run into this wonderful flanker of King Kouros at a local perfumerie; I’ve seen it on eBay several times at crazy prices and wanted to find it in Colombia; well, I found it by accident, and thanks to the incredible price, I didn’t hesitate to take it home. Kouros Fraicheur has the same DNA as the infamous king of men’s perfumes, but it’s much more ‘delicate,’ as the seaweed scent is barely noticeable; I don’t smell the pineapple, but I do detect neroli and ginger, ingredients that give it a more dynamic and modern cut and make it more versatile today; meanwhile, the amber makes it a bit creamier. It has a very 90s touch that reminds me a bit of Montana Parfum d’Homme and even Salvador Dalí, as the citrus notes provide a sparkly aura and make it less ‘rigid’ than classic Kouros. Its classification as a woody chypre is totally accurate. The performance of this EDT is really surprising: it lasts more than 8 hours on the skin! Projection and sillage are moderate to high, notable qualities for a perfume designed for hot days; I think it works best during the day and can be used regularly (however, in my case, I’m going to treasure it to enjoy it for many years). To conclude, I’d like to say that Kouros Fraicheur has really pleased me (how could it not? It’s Kouros after all) and I’m proud to have this jewel in my collection. Score: Scent: 9/10 Longevity: 10/10 Projection: 9/10 Sillage: 9/10 Versatility: 8/10 Average: 9/10

Kouros Fraicheur is another testament to Yves Saint Laurent’s excellence, a brand that has set trends with original olfactory proposals. It’s a more domesticated version of the legendary Kouros, stripping away the beastliness of the original to moderately use neroli flower, ginger, and vetiver, creating a unique mentholated aura. Imagine if Drakkar Noir and Kouros went on a honeymoon to the Mediterranean, and after nights of passion, they had this summer perfume. Outstanding quality with moderate to high projection and good longevity. Releasing a flanker of a classic is a challenge, but YSL met it with excellence, proving that their iconic jewels can be reinvented. Rating: 10

Kouros Fraicheur is further evidence of the excellent work of Yves Saint Laurent, a house responsible for various olfactory proposals, many of which have set a precedent of originality, being pioneers and trendsetters in the world of perfumes. It is a domesticated interpretation of the mythical and beastly Kouros, whose composition omits many of the notes that make up the overwhelming robustness of its older brother (or father?). Instead, there is a moderate use of neroli flower, which, in conjunction with ginger and vetiver, generates an unparalleled mentholated aura. To get an idea of its scent, let’s imagine that Drakkar Noir and Kouros went on a honeymoon to the Mediterranean, and as a result of torrid nights of passion, they produced this magnificent summer perfume. A creation with outstanding quality, offering moderate to high projection with very good longevity. It can be quite a challenge to launch a flanker of a mythical and well-known perfume. But YSL didn’t find the task too big and left a tangible demonstration that one of its iconic gems can be reinvented through variants of the highest category. Rating: 10

It’s a fresher, more citrusy, and less potent version of the legendary YSL fragrance, famous for its unmistakable scent and arrogant personality. Ideal for those who find the original too intrusive but want to enjoy a fragrance with extraordinary olfactory evolution. Perfectly wearable during the hottest months.

  • The original Kouros smells like testosterone, cocaine, and steroids. There’s no before or after; it’s a separate, irreplicable space. Brutal and ruthless, you either make way for it or get crushed by it. Its high load of extreme notes, especially the civet, led YSL to seek alternatives to flirt with Kouros without entering the dark side. Over the years, we’ve had the Eau de Sport, this Fraicheur (Sanofi white box and Gucci blue box, said to be less potent), and the modern Cologne Sport. All excellent, also discontinued. Fraicheur tries to give Kouros a 90s twist, fresh and sporty. It’s noticeable from the start: clean, cold citrus notes, with a touch of pineapple, and inserted there, the Kouros scent. But at low volume, barely any civet (that cat litter smell), without losing the radiant tone, without really entering the ‘Kouros’ dimension, just hinting at it under that handsome fern-sport disguise. I think it’s beautiful, very well made, with great performance; maybe it’s the flanker I like most because it gives that 90s vibe I always appreciate. Kouros with Gucci Nobile, or as they say, with Drakkar Noir, on a vacation trip along the Mediterranean. Of course, if you don’t like the original Kouros, you’ll likely hate this too. I think it’s more of a gift for perfume fans than an alternative. Actually, it’s a version of the same song, but played on the beach, with friends, beers, bongos, and lots of joy.

  • Hi everyone. My bottles are from a clearance sale; I bought them for the price and because the name started with Kouros. The resemblance is undeniable, as mentioned below—if you don’t like Kouros, you’ll likely hate this too. But keeping the root, Fraicheur is much more approachable (not weak). I tried one in February with temps up to 75°F (25°C) and the experience was great. Its potency is high, and the longevity on skin is too, even better on clothes, my wife confirms. It’s a fresh scent (not soft) that doesn’t overwhelm; you notice it as you pass, you feel the pineapple without it being cloying. I think its character is clearly summer-made for the heat. One downside: I see it as very limited even for summer, not suitable for formal or semi-formal situations. It smells like a pool party, at a beach bar, with friends, or a BBQ; I perceive it as party-ready, with shorts and a nice tee, ready for a beach club. That’s just my opinion (maybe I’ve been out of the loop too long). They say they stopped making it, and at current prices, there are more sensible options, except for those of us who love these rarities and private enjoyment; in that case, I highly recommend diluting sanity in a bottle of original Kouros and making it look like an accident. Greetings to perfume lovers.

I currently have a nearly full 100ml bottle of this gem. It’s a super masculine, clean fragrance, a ‘Fresh’ version of the original beast, but WATCH OUT! Don’t get fooled; it has a potency that crushes any modern Parfum or EDP. The standout notes are the bergamot flower. I see it as ideal for summer: bermudas, white shirt, something fresh and classy. As far as I know, it’s hard to get now, so I feel very lucky. If you like vintage scents or love Kouros but find it too much, try this Fraicheur. Cheers!

I have a nearly full 100ml bottle of this gem. It’s a super masculine, clean fragrance—a ‘Fresh’ version of the original beast, but be warned: don’t get fooled, its performance absolutely crushes any modern perfume. The standout note is the orange blossom. Perfect for summer: wear it with Bermuda shorts and a white shirt. Something fresh and classy. As far as I know, it’s hard to find, so I feel lucky. If you like vintage scents, enjoy Kouros but find it too heavy, try this Fraicheur. Cheers.

Absolutely delicious. I’ve been hunting for an affordable deal on this precious liquid for years. It’s impossible to get and almost always sky-high on price. It performs well; it’s a floral Kouros thanks to the orange blossom with a citrus lift but keeping the classic DNA. It’s cleaner and more pleasant; if I could only have one all-summer fragrance, it would be this. It doesn’t smell like the Eau de Sport or the Cologne Sport, though it’s closer to the latter and more potent. Fraîcheur. 10/10

Absolutely delicious! I’d been hunting for a decent deal on this precious, sought-after liquid for years—it’s impossible to find and usually costs a fortune. The performance is insane: it’s a floral Kouros (thanks to the bergamot) with a citrusy freshness but keeps the classic DNA intact. It smells cleaner and more pleasant; if I had to pick a summer fragrance for life, it would be THIS one. It doesn’t smell like the Eau de Sport or the Cologne Sport, though it’s closer to the latter and packs more punch in terms of freshness. 10/10
