I found Yardley English Lavender to be the closest thing to the legendary Atkinsons Lavender available today. It feels like a reborn classic, featuring an absolutely brutal note of wet oakmoss. It’s 100% unisex; I even use it on my pillow to dream awake and wake up laughing. I highly recommend it because the original Atkinsons won’t be making a comeback, and you have to look for alternatives. I’ve tried everything from Lomani Pour Homme to Ferrari Lavender, but nothing comes close, so exploring options is the best move.

This is a 220-year-old scent, created back when Mary Shelley and Jane Austen were alive, right in the middle of the Empire fashion era. People ditched those uncomfortable corseted dresses for light muslin gowns, and this cologne captures that spirit: it’s fresh. The lavender stands out beautifully against other flowers and herbs, creating a green, floral, relaxing, and refreshing fragrance. I can picture Austen’s heroines using a muslin handkerchief soaked in this to calm their nerves. I love it, especially at night as a relaxer after a stressful day, paired with cotton pajamas, reading Austen, or binge-watching a series. It’s proof that a true classic survives the fads.
